Here is one of the classic stunters:

Yardstick for measurements.

This is a predictable stunter and a hard pulling kite. It really looks good to see an entire team leaning back against the wind while flying these.

It can wear you out, though.

This was the first sport kite I ever flew, back in 1990...

Marina Green in San Francisco, saw a fellow flying and asking him what it was all about.

Next thing you know, he's handed it off to me and I'm sliding down the field on my butt.

Popped up and bought a kite the next morning, never looked back.

Thanks for posting this Pete. :)

In the first video, I think they are flying Hawaiian SpinOffs.

The fourth video may also be SpinOffs. (Hard to tell; no close-ups of the kites. But they fly more like SpinOffs.) I was there when the fourth video was taken. At least I was AT the 1991 Great Lakes. And I know I've seen the Roaring Flamingos fly around that time.

Thanks for adding these.

Next thing you know, he's handed it off to me and I'm sliding down the field on my butt.

Like I said: Hard-pulling kites!

Edit: videos referenced have been removed.

Ah, right you are about the first video... Not sure about the 4th one, I thought the Flamingos always flew Hawaiians - but I've removed both for accurate representation. :P

Breathtaking videos, thanks for sharing. The Team Hawaiian was my first big kite about 1992. I had forgotten how it "sings" in a good wind.

Nice 'bump" MMaertens. I have to get my Hawaiian out for some exercise one of these days.

The Flamingos did fly full size Hawaiians with actual flamingos on them. I worked with them (the flamingos) when top of the line was one of the few producing high performance kites (although things were changing pretty quickly in the early 90's) top of the line, chicago fire and flamingos lit up the beach in those days. Lee and sue always had something cool too. I am sure that I am not mentioning everyone( I apologize) but it was a fun time to be working for Mackinaw Kite Company.

Just picked up a full size Hawaiian, never flown one and cant wait too. I hope it don't wear me out though, I just wanted something to draw attention to the kites in the sky during smaller kiting events.

Slow moving and easy to control kite.

Mine is from the mid 80's switch original fiberglass frame to P400 skysharks. Dropped 1/3 of the weight. The kite now flies in low wind (still handles the high wind too).

Simple to swap frames as all the sticks are full size no cutting needed. Purchased blems at a big discount from skyburrner.

I'm posting here just to show off my babies in my signature! Stacked, at sunset, in South Padre Island!

Nice. There is a place in the sky for the one that is not just flipping flopping slipping sliding and other unnatural actions. BTW I am fairly new to the kite world and do not have that 80s 90s history. I keep trying to get man to do unnatural things.
