John Barresi Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 I'd just started playing around with making my own community website in 2003, dedicated to gathering sport kite competitor biographies from around the world... http://replay.waybackmachine.org/20031124234258/http://satori-kites.com/ An old friend of mine and the original owner of Kitelife (Mike Gillard, R.I.P.) got wind of it, and since he'd just taken over editorship of AKA's Kiting magazine at the time, he asked me to take the reins... And, here we are. My first Kitelife issue was #28... http://www.kitelife.com/magazine/issue28/content.php Just got nostalgic after poking around on the Wayback Machine, thought I'd share my warm fuzzies. Quote
John Barresi Posted April 11, 2011 Author Report Posted April 11, 2011 Also found my (nearly) complete competition history, up until 2006. http://replay.waybackmachine.org/20061101110318/http://www.johnbarresi.com/history.htm I competed in 2007 and 2008 as well, but not since. Quote
--Pete Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 This: This site is best viewed with Microsoft IE 4.0 or better and 600x800 screen resolution. ...cracks me up. Especially when you have just posted (and I have seconded) an exhortation to the world to upgrade from IE6. I accidentally set my screen resolution to 600x800 recently. I can't believe that at one time I thought that 600x800 was the ultimate in clarity. My first graphics screen (a second screen; my main screen was a print-on-paper Teletype) was a beat up television driven by a 256x256(x1 - which means black and white) Matrox video card. I had to write my own driver to get my computer (a NorthStar S100) to "talk" to it. I've been playing with "home" computers since 1978.) When I first saw 600x800 in 64 DIFFERENT colors (RGB at 4 bits per color), I thought I had seen the promised land. (Today, I have mood lighting in my house that can handle 64 thousand colors.) Quote
--Pete Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 I note that that there is a lot of stuff missing from the satori site which is not included on the wayback site. Too bad; there is a lot of internet history that will never be recovered. Almost as sad as the missing film only recorded on celluloid film which is also gone forever. Quote
Guru4tru Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 That's really great John! Thanks for sharing that with us! It sure is obvious that you were made for what you are doing...or is that...you made what you are doing......I suppose it's both, sort of mixed together!! Yesterday: "SATORI"...Today: "KITELIFE"...Tomorrow: (I won't mention it, because it will make the AKA people nervous! heehee!!) Keep It Up! Duane Quote

I have the original site on one of my hard drives, but online, it's incomplete. That's really great John! Thanks for sharing that with us! Administrative types. While I appreciate it's necessity on the whole, I don't have much patience for committee process... I'd rather be able to take chances on demand. Quote
