I have a neighbor that offered her serger that not being used anymore for $50. I understand it "overstitches" as well not a clue what that means but she seemed pretty proud of the fact. .I have an old viking sewing machine that works ok for a lot of things but was wondering is the serger something worth the $ for use on something perhaps down the road or a waste of money ? I intend to sew mostly SLK stuff, banners bols etc..

Buy it! If you don't like it, sell it to me! A serger takes two pieces of material, sews them together, trims the seam allowances, and binds (over-stitches) the allowances all in one operation!

Well, that sounds pretty cool. I learned something.
