You need a really big van to have this one in the back with the LE assembled.

I kinda doubt this kite's abilities to do many free style tricks, but I've never flown a framed 2 line kite that I couldn't axel. I would love to try !

I've always had my eye out for one of these, too. I can't imagine that one of these would be easy to ship overseas, unfortunately...

Kite Party happens once a year in Huntington Beach, CA in mid-March.  http://kiteparty.com/  Website still has this year's info even though it's passed.  It probably gets updated a few months before the next event.

Soooo....since the pic was taken at Kite Party, was that Thor's Hammer being flown on 75' lines? :o

Such a gentle giant... With a (relatively) short keel like this I bet it can do flic flacs and maybe even yoyos, though it might end catastrophically.. No guts no glory!!

Though on any of these, inputs have got to be ridiculous... I'm talking about running back and forth, and using your full arms length just to do a snap stall

Big inputs are fun ! I really wish there were more 10' kites out on the market, or even bigger, like the Thor's Hammer. I've been looking for a Thor's Hammer for years, every time I find one it either gets snatched up, or the $$$ are ridiculous. I actually passed on an orange one at one point thinking that I would find the blue one that I really wanted... haven't seen a blue one for sale since !

Bottom line, big kites are BIG fun. Everyone should get a chance to fly one.

Hey @RobB, I saw this one and immediately thought you would like it. I think the seller would prefer a face to face though... in Germany.

So what was this for kind of a kite? First I thought I found it (Topas, Space kites):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyucHiW1-BI
http://www.spacekites.de/ProductDetail.aspx?prod=100116&cat=10
or its larger version

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kesK3CmF7aE
but the relative length of the spine doesn't match. B.t.w. I believe that they are no longer active. I e-mailed them about 3/4 years ago without any reply. Looking on dates on the site, activity seemed to have ceased 2014(?).

Update:

I thought that the Space kite web site just happened to remain while their activity had ceased. Now (December 2016)  I saw that there was a slight update/change in their page. I also saw that Metropolis Kites was offering the 3.4m Gladiator. However the trailing edge differed somewhat from the Space Kite's Gladiator. On the other hand looking on the three different colors of the Gladiator in Metropolis Kites, the trailing edges differ there as well (though they shouldn't of course - color should not affect shape of kite).

Those Topas look like they have a really high aspect ratio. Not really built for tricks. The Topas 3.0 is a little under 10 feet (yawn) but the 4.5 is about the same size as the Thor's Hammer. Something I'd really like to get my hands on... maybe not to own, but just to fly for an hour or two.

It seems that our European friends are always pushing the envelope in kiting, surprising, since bigger, better, faster was what I always thought of as an American mantra. Oh, well, I give in, the Euros seem to be ahead of us in kiting innovation. That's OK, I get it... I'm one of the few crazies over here that appreciates BIG kites.

Tappestry Kites made a few BIG kites, 9 & 10 footers. I'm sure if anyone was truly interested, Steve might sew you one. I'll bet money, it would knock your socks off ! I'd be asking him for one, but the kite budget is shot for this year !

I don't think that the span-width says it all. The manufacturer rates the speed higher than it's trickability for all the sizes of the Topaz that was (?) available through their web site. For a kite that is more speed/power than tricking, I'd expect that it is correspondingly shallow (short stand offs) and with nose angled backwards. There might even be a billow towards the leading edge?

Also kites less than 3m (10') can make you stop yawning as well. See and listen to these Fazer XL (2.8m) and Fazer XXL (3.6m) videos (the Fazer kites are sold as speed and power kites). Although these pilots doesn't do any tricking (yes you can do it, though I've only tried it with the Fazer XL myself) I wouldn't say that they sit down because they are sleepy:

Can you imagine what an axel looks like with a kite this big?

In the Korvokite site where they sell the Wolsing kites Steiki and Flaki they say:

"Trick- ,Speed-, and Powerenthusiasts would be disappointed, even if the bigger versions, with a steeply adjusted bridle, are able to pull the pilot rapidly on his backside. But this is not the intesion. Günters objective was a kite for pilots, who want nothing else than to enjoy the majestic appearance of a Wolsing kite."

Pricing of the Steiki is a bit odd, straight forward and simple. You pay 1.5EUR per cm span-width for the Steiki! Steiki is available up to 3.5m and Flaki up to 12m. In the book "Grosse Lenkdrachen - Entwerfen, Bauen, Fliegen" Günter Wolsing also describes how to build a larger 4.5m version of the Steiki.

Side slides and axels with a 3.5m Steiki:

Ich habe es gefunden:
http://dradaba.drachenforum.net/detail.php?id=299
( http://www.kite-tests.de/weihnachten-zu-ostern.html )

The name of the kite is Pure XXL and was designed(/produced?) by a Michael Ryll. Spanwidth: 4.4m. In his shop (Drachenmarkt) they are not (no longer?) offered, but there are several Pure kites on the main image on the index page.

In the above Drachenforum page a pilot managed to do a snap stall and a flat axel and endured flying it for 1.5h. In the below videos however, there is no tricking, but instead everything looks very relaxed (tempo i.e. - not force). I wonder how much that is due to tradition among buyers, stamina of pilots (piloting a large kite) or the tricking properties of the kite.

In this video a Long Dart (Magnum? - another Günter Wolsing kite), a Pure XXL and a Flaki is flown:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68i3U9mqsT0

In this video the Pure XXL makes buggies redundant:

For more large kite drooling go to:
http://dradaba.drachenforum.net/search.php
and search for:
Kategorie: Zweileiner
Unterkategorie: alle
Spannweite von: 300 cm
Spannweite bis: 2000 cm
Then press the "Suchen" button.

(OK quoting myself....)

Just found this image of a Topas field card (?) ( https://get.google.com/albumarchive/116200505564645228183/album/AF1QipN6VrqkQHkEqit6NSPhDmnbccBTl6mQgwcR-F_c/AF1QipMCEv62Tm4XMeChCbB6RBdCyTgW2Dsy2qdBC8WE ). I've never seen this detailed tuning recommendations an any of the kites that I've bought. Without the "full" knowledge of a product you don't fully own it. This is definitely a step in the right direction. This is also likely to be educational and invites you to think about the settings and be well prepared when reaching the field. Though not a perfect match it reminds me of the "Maker Bill of Rights" ( http://cdn.makezine.com/make/MAKERS_RIGHTS.pdf ) - read to the very end.

In this video of "'Kleine' Pure von Ryll" in BFT4+ I get even more respect of the XXL version (sound on recommended):

Though I know that how much a single pilot can pull is limited and a larger kite typically just means that you can't use it when it is too windy, I still can't stop me from imagining how it would be if a large Pure version would had been used in this video.

("Kliene" means small, i.e. here most likely meaning a non XL,XXL version )
