Recommended Posts

Although this quad workshop at St Anne's sold out a while ago, ONE SPOT HAS JUST OPENED UP due to a family illness - we have adjusted the registration form to accommodate one more sign up, it's likely to go fast!

Remember, sign up form doesn't work in special apps - web browsers only.

Sorry to see that someone's not well, but delighted to get a spot on the course. Really looking forward to it and moving my flying on a notch (or two)

Hi Folks.

Just a quickie to say I'm looking forward to meeting you all.  I've just booked into Howarth House but I'm sure there's a local tavern that everyone can collapse in after dashing about Indoor Flying. ;  )

Regards, Les.

Hi Les, not long to wait now! The clinic should be great! Out of interest, is it you who has a Dark Side of the Moon quad? if so, I would love to see it. Had wondered about trying to make something similar myself (zero kite making skills at present). See you next week. Sarah

Hi Sarah.

No sadly not.  It belongs to 'Jonesey' who was in our Rev' Team when I lived on the South Coast (UK), and I was never able to get him to part with it.

I might try flying the album cover as a single-liner one day though! :)

15ft is a bit long for my taste but it does seem to be the standard sold length - my preference runs closer to 10', mostly having to do with common available overhead and the direct connect between me and my kite.

10' and 15' will be just fine, easy enough to nip and tuck on the fly if you need to during the meet. ;)

John, I have a 10ft and a 15ft lineset for my indoor rev. Is it worth me making up any different length ones for St Anne's please? What would you recommend? I am totally new to indoor kites. Thanks.

I've not done any indoor either, sure to put a smile on faces.

Yey only a week and a bit to go!

We'll be rolling into town sometime around 1pm if all goes well, not sure what I'll be up to after getting the family settled but I'm looking forward to the days ahead! :)

I'am leaving Amsterdam in an hour.
I hope the weather is fine in St Annes
It's raining in Holland and there is no wind.

ADVISORY: Clinic will be held on the North side of the pier, start is 10am sharp tomorrow morning - don't be late, and please spread the word with your classmates just to be sure everyone knows. Thank you, gonna be a wicked learn fest for all, me too! 👍🏻

Had a great visit with the early birds this evening - may be some rain tomorrow but we can do the 101 undercover, presumably under some part of the pier?

Remember, it's all about comfort - if you've got the gear, use it, bring some tea or other feel goods, whatever promotes your flow - we'll look after ourselves and dig into what is available, won't be any shortage of juicy topics and maybe, just maybe we can grin that weather right around us. ;)

Actually starts to look way better after 1200 which by coincidence, is roundabout when the 101 will be finishing up. ;)

Even better forecast for Friday!

Looks like hell at the moment but it appears the rain is ending earlier than expected today, push that glow friends! :)

Thank you John, thank you Josh, thank you all for awesome clinic. What a nice group of people

Learned a lot: flic flacs, axels, dog stake, indoor, an 18 person team fly :D:D and those little details that can make such big differences when you fly your kite. Enough to keep myself busy the next period of time

Thanks again. Fly well B)

Sander

A clinic with JB will not only improve your skill set, it will change the way you think about kiting as a whole..

Led by veteran pilots Scott Weider, Paul de Bakker and myself, this dual line kite workshop is for beginner though master levels, starting from the ins and outs of your equipment on up through fundamental flight techniques and trick flying - we'll also have a few Prism kites on hand for folks to try their hand at team and "ground play" flying without fear of damaging valuable equipment.

Anything with two strings is welcome including foils, stacks with tails and delta stunt kites - the purpose of this workshop is first and foremost to help you maximize the kites you have, and the way you like to fly... During the weekend, we'll cover a whole range of dual line topics that interrelate.

Starting this topic to assemble a fairly comprehensive list of all the video tutorial resources available online related to 2 string / dual line / stunt kite / sport kite flying... The list below is somewhat categorized by variety of knowledge, ideally getting more robust and eventually more complex as you work your way through.
Kite Loft - Fundamentals as taught by kite store staff.
Hosted by MonkeySee.com Dodd Gross - Fundamental and freestyle trick tutorials.
Dodd's YouTube channel DVD - Flight School (no link) DVD - Flight School II (no link) DVD - Flight School III (no link) DVD - Flight School IV: More Tricks (YouTube) Prism Kites - Fundamental and freestyle trick tutorials.
The Way To Fly Advanced Way to Fly Misc tutorials (YouTube) Reed Design - Animated practice / competition maneuvers (flight paths).
International Rule Book (IRBC) for team, pairs and individual Stunt Team Competitive Kiting (STACK) for team, pairs and individuals Randy Greenway (aka RandyG) - Freestyle trick tutorials.
Archive on Kite Clique RandyG on Vimeo Mama74 - Freestyle trick tutorials and studies (repeated examples).
      Mama74 on YouTube Rob Randolph
Comete tutorial (YouTube) allkabi - 3D animations of trick maneuvers.
Fractured Axel (YouTube) Flap Jack (YouTube) Roll Up, Half Lazy, Unroll to Fade (YouTube) Trick Sequence 1 (YouTube) And some added info (non-tutorial)
Trick List (not complete) I'll likely reorganize as time goes on, but please feel free to add anything you've found in a reply and I'll add it to this lead post if I think it fits into what I want to end up with, otherwise it'll stay part of the discussion here - thanks!

Yes indeed, "borrow JB for a Weekend" will be drawn on May 15th, 2018...

YOURS TO WIN: All-day access for THREE FULL DAYS to pick my brain, learn and play, solo or team, dual or quad, indoor or outdoor, water flying, urban kiting, dogstake, competition skills, you name it, hang out, name anything (legal and platonic) that we can fit into three days and I'd genuinely love to participate with you.

      TERMS:
I will quite literally be somebody's (or a group's) private instructor, kite bag boy, workshop presenter, team trainer or simple arm candy for all three days, the winner can share me around with other local fliers, your team, a club, or just keep the fun all to themselves. I will cover my own flight to meet with the winner at any major International airport in the Continental USA (using Star Alliance air miles) on a mutually agreed date (any season), but no sooner than 21 days after the drawing. Winner provides basic lodging (couch or floorspace is acceptable) and local transportation for duration of the agreed visit, as it relates to the airport (pick up / drop off), kite flying and sleeping arrangements. Entry into this drawing is $10 per ticket with no limit to the number you can buy, all ticket numbers will be issued to the buyer via email (no refunds). Drawing will be held on May 15th, 2018 using RANDOM.ORG's 3RD PARTY DRAW SERVICE.
Main terms apply to mainland US entrants only (takes lots more air miles to go abroad), unless a non-contiguous US or International (or Hawaii, Guam, overseas, etc) participant is willing to cover the airfare under the same terms otherwise. NOTE: If you are near the US border in Canada or Mexico, we can also arrange for the major US airport nearest to you and do a pick-up / ride-across arrangement from there as long as those local arrangements are made by the winner. By purchasing tickets, you acknowledge full understanding of all the terms above.
NOTE: Tickets can NOT be ordered via TapaTalk or the KiteLife App, please visit the link below using a web browser (mobile or desktop).

Join us for two very full days of quad instruction on the beautiful shores of St Annes Beach in Lytham St Annes U.K. on Aug 30-31, 2018 immediately before the St Annes International Kite Festival!
Instructors will be John Barresi (www.johnbarresi.com) and Josh Mitcheson.

      DAY ONE - AUG 30
Quad 101: We'll be covering everything from absolute basics (pure beginner) all the way up through advanced techniques as well as the "weird stuff" like dogstake, short line catch and throw or any other quad line flight styles that may be of interest to the students, this first day is primarily focused on a full range of individual skills.

      DAY TWO - AUG 31
Team Flying: Actually easier than it looks, team flying is proven to help your skills along much quicker while having a ton of fun at the same time in a very forgiving social environment - after having done 100+ clinics, it's very very rare that fliers didn't find a fair measure of success on the line with others - come on, pave the way for participating in a mega fly at your next event.

Ideal choice of equipment for this class is any model of Djinn, Revolution 1.5 (includes EXP, SLE, B-Series, printed specials, etc) or similar "1.5 platform" models (like Phoenix, Freilein, Polo, etc), designs like Fulcrum are also welcome - we'll go through painless equipment set up, good tuning and all aspects of flight - this clinic is not brand-centric, the goal here is to demystify quad flying and set you up to win at your own game.

If you want to be able to try team flying, 40 metre / 120 ft lines (Spectra or Skybond material) are strongly suggested as the international team standard.

Registration is $135 (approx £100) per person and includes full access to the clinic on both days (Thu 10a-4p / Fri 10a-3p)... Please note, there are ONLY 20 SPOTS available and we expect them to fill up very quickly.
      RSVP'd:
@Flintfootfilly (Sarah) @FlyingHigh (Gavin) @Simon Cooper @Steve SLF Caroline S. @Neil Lover @GRAHAM MARSHALL @Ferrit (Peter) @Mickp14 (Mick) @Stephen Sunderland @JWharton ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? If you're coming, we start the "Quad 101" portion of this class at 10AM SHARP on Thursday morning... It's jam packed with invaluable information and first time attendees are encouraged to consider attendance mandatory, lots of little details that add dimension to your set up and flight experience.

There will also be an add on indoor clinic on Wednesday Aug 29 from 4:30p to 9:30p, registration is $30 (15 spaces available) and covers 5 HOURS of indoor access and instruction.

If you want some homework, you might also check out the tutorials available on KiteLife at http://learnkites.com/ and Kite Forge at http://kiteforge.com/help, can’t be too prepared!
