Generally acknowledged as a dual line activity, modern trick, “pitch” or “slack line” flying utilizes movements and kite design that allow the pilot to flip, float and maneuver their kite much like a yo-yo, all while the kite is more or less slack on the lines. This style of flying started around the mid-90s and reached full steam by the late 90s.
