Both the Quad videos are great. In fact as I mentioned they are too good. I bought a dual and I don't want to sell the wife on the quad, yet.

Ah, I got it now. I had to draw a leading edge on a post it and visilize the lines and reference a picture of the kite, but now it makes perfect sense. Really simple, but tricky. Cool trick that is. That sounds like it will be perfect. Thank you very much John F and John B, that trick just saved me a bunch of time and hassles. I will also take my longest screwdriver and see how that works. And yes, I am sure when it is 85 feet away it won't seem big at all. (Comes with 85 feet of 150 pound spectra line) I hope the winds are good on Saturday. I am excited now. I just need to wind up my iPod...

JMPVW73, The videos you linked to are Quicktime, and since my wife will be viewing at her work (don't we all do this) I don't think her work computer will support them and she is not savvy enough to figure them out. Yes, a video of a couple, man and woman, flying duals would be great. Or just two people flying duals would be good. Might inspire her to join me. A good kite competition would be good to show the size of the sport, and to show the choreography. It could show the relaxant parts and the trick parts. Great ideas, thanks. John, thanks for the kind words.

Yep, I think the Dual Silver Fox video looks good with good music. John, you are truly a master and I am humbled to even be in this same virtual room with you. Really cool. Thanks Since I just bought the Dual Prism Quantum, I will show her the Quad demos later. I.e. when I decide to buy a quad. Those quad demos are almost too good, if i showed her those now she might say, why didn't you buy a quad. (Gee, looking at the videos it makes me think how I thought I was cool cause as a kid I could do tricks with a single line kite. Little did I, and little do I know)

I want to show my wife what stunt flying is really about and show her all the different tricks that can be done. And since I can't myself yet... What do you think is the best video to show this. Something with mellow music I think would be best as she isn't into hard rock. Something with many cool tricks, but also nice slow parts too. And of course good camera angles. Thanks for you help, and thanks for helping the wife understand

I will be at the beach, so I don't think a screwdriver will hold in the sand. Cool trick though. John F, I read your instructions a couple of times, and I have to admit I am not following them. When you say roll the kite I assume you me flip it 180 degrees from nose towards you to tail towards you. And maybe another flip in the same direction making it 360 degrees. But I don't see how this would work. Must be my lack of experience. Last night I got the kite, Prism Quantum, and put it together. It is bigger then I expected. No wonder it has strong pull. So looking at it, if I lay it down on its back with the nose facing away from me, then the gap created by the trailing edge standoffs could catch wind and flip over? Or it would take a strong wind to catch those areas? Also when I pull is it likely to dig into the sand? I guess this weekend I can find out for myself, but it is always good to learn from those that have gone before you.

Thanks for all the advice. I didn't get a chance to try it yet, as UPS has delayed my package from Friday last week to Tuesday this week...

Very good information here, exactly what I was looking for. That cartwell looks sweet, but I am guessing it is much harder then it looks. Hopefully I won't get a face down nose towards me landing, or it seems I will be doing the walk of shame... Thank you all, now I have some things to try and to practice. I am sure I will have to reference back as I will probably miss some key element to make it work in the field.

Hi, I thought this was a better fit in beginner then in Trick flying, since this is hopefully very basic info. I just ordered a Prism Quantum kite as my first decent kite. I am used to placing the kite face down with the string laid out, and then running to the end of the string and picking it up and tugging on it to get it up in the air. Of course this has to be done before the wind just picks the kite up on its own. Is there a better way that is easy to do by one person? Also what are the tricks, if any, for getting the kite back in the air after having made a unplanned landing? I assume the ktie could be face down, face up, and pointing towards you or away, and any combination in between. PS Tried searching the forum but got an error message... Thanks, Keith

Thanks, I think it will be a great choice and hopfully will give me many happy hours. Thanks for all the help presented here. See you in the air...

Well, over the weekend a friend passed away. I decided to order the Prism Quantum kite, and rename the kite after him and remember him that way. He was always a free spirit who traveled with the wind. I don't know, it just seemed right...

Thanks Rob, OK so the pull should be fine. Interesting you mentioned the Acrobatx breaking, as it is highly recommended and I had briefly thought about it. I found the Prism Quantum on eBay for $70 plus $10 shipping, on the wild internet I can find it for $79 with free shipping. So either way it looks like $80. In fact the price on it seems heavily controlled as there was not much variation. The price looks like a brick wall.
-
Thanks Rob, the comment about being harder to break and if you could have only one, are very useful. The flying in a wider range of wind conditions is helpful too. As I understand it the bigger the kite the slower it is to respond and the easier it is to control because of that. OK, the two of you have me leaning towards the Quantum, that is if I can find a price around $65. (My wife will kill me.) I have one concern with the quantum, I will be taking it to the Southern California Beach some days and wonder if the wind is really kicking if this big kite will have too much pull for me and it will be a fight? Fighting the pull doesn't sound like fun. Is this a reasonable concern or on the other hand does this kite do better in strong wind then others? Thanks for sharing your experiance.

The Quantum at $80 is really more then I really want to go. In fact it is high enough that I don't see me doing it. The Nexus at $65 is better but still high. 3-25mph wind range looks good. And it is fast which is cool. It folds to a small package which I don't really need, and I don't need to pay more for if I am. Complete kit is nice. Is this better then a Cherry bomb? I guess I don 't know many things to look for so i don't know why this would be worth the extra money. Thanks for the help. We all started some place right?
