Today i had my first batch of near perfect wind. It was fairly consistent, and it was just over walking speed, so i am estimating about 4 - 6 mph. I have my kite trimmed as far forward as the bridle would allow to get max lift. I started getting better with precision controls, i would lower the kite into a perfect landing when the wind died and such. This is the interesting thing though, a few of you said that flips would be very difficult with this kite, and doubted if it could do them. In fact, flips are about the only trick i CAN do! I can wind it up 2 and 3 times and float it down to about the ground and roll it out. My axels and such turn more into distressed flat spins towards the ground usually due to the string catching on the wingtip or the nose. the edges of my nose nylon are like hooks, any idea how to smooth these out? I am sure the bigger kites would be much easier to learn on, I just dont have the money to get one! I managed to do a front flip with it earlier today, i am not sure how though. lol

I got to fly today, the wind was kind of stout.. Maybe 10-15mph? But my kite did fly easier even when the wind had died a little! Im glad to see the clouds finally breaking.

That link helped, i shifted my knot toward the nose about a quarter of an inch, when it stops raining ill try her out. Its just my luck, the weather has been beautiful for 2 months.. then when i get a kite it drops to 45 degrees and rains.....

I own a Prism JAZZ (obviously... lol). What kind of tricks can i expect it to perform, and what should i avoid because ill be unable to do them? I dont expect my kite can do many of the flips and such that i see, but id like to have an idea of what i can do so that im not getting frustrated doing tricks i cant perform! Thanks!

Iv been trying to figure out how to do that, all the instructions i find are for a system that i dont have. Should i upload a picture of what mine is like?

Hi, i went to about 4 different parks yesterday trying to find decent wind. Im not sure why, but i found a park where the wind was strong enough to keep the flag out straight.. But when i tried to fly, i would pop the kite up and it would just float back down to the ground. There was wind all around me, and it had to have been 5-10mph somewhere.. But my kite refused to stay in the air at all. Today after work i will search for an open field out by the airport maybe. My town where i live is in a valley surrounded by mountains, so its kind of hard to find nice open area to fly in.

Ok, so i have flown my new kite for about 4 hours today. I can fly it and control it for the most part. Land and take off. My question is, the wind here is very moody. Itll be very strong for about 10 seconds then itll be almost dead for 10 seconds. There are times when the kite is pulling me off my balance, and other times when the kite has no control at all and just falls. When is the best time to try to do tricks? In all the videos i see, peoples shirts barely move, grass does not move.. They all look they they are flying in very very light wind with very little input form the strings. So im not really sure what i need.. Light wind? Strong wind? Iv been trying to find videos and stuff to read online but iv no luck so far. Thanks again! Chikokishi

Hi everyone, I finally got myself a kite! My best friend surprised me with a Prism JAZZ, i am super stoked! Wish me luck!

Kite flying is pretty popular over there is it? Iv never seen a "real" kite before actually. My friends mom has a delta kite made out of fabric.. thats about as close as iv seen. Other then that its just been plastic ones.

Oh wow. yeah ok =). I suppose i will do a little more research. perhaps a 50-60$ kite would be better in the long run than the 25$ one im looking at.

Hi again, I stumbled across the Eolo brand kite named Genesis today. Its sold in europe it looks like, ~40 euro. Comments?
-
Oh i see.. so it could just flip and hit the ground. thats no fun
-
I sure will, whenever i get my head financially above water! What would keep a kite from being able to flip? Balancing maybe?

http://www.mcgillswarehouse.com/ItemsList.aspx?ProductID=128110043 ^this one. http://www.mcgillswarehouse.com/ItemsList.aspx?ProductID=128110044 ^ this one is freaking hugeee... but i dont know if it would be nimble enough.

I think i found one im going to get, it has a 77" wingspan

oh.. thats no fun. I was looking into buying a really cheap kite, like iv said. I found some Premier brand kites for like 15$... I know its super cheap, but does anyone know anything about this brand?
-
I actually saw a fighter video.. Thats insane. I never know you could control a kit with no tail... Would a regular diamond kit do that too?
-
Wow, both very good posts! These "give a kite to your friend" ideas... Know anyone giving away?! hahaha. Im in montana, and where i live the wind is rather random. Sometimes it blows sometimes it doesnt. And most of the time its a gust followed by nothing. Rather irritating.

Has anyone had any experience with the super super cheap kites? What exactly makes the expensive ones better? Are they shaped different?
-
I built a stunt kite yesterday. Its VERY small... And because of such impossible to control.. But when i get good wind ill try anyway. Its plastic and tape. It will give me something to do untill i earn the whopping 20$ that i need for a kite.. wow i feel poor.. lol

"too much time to fly means too little money to buy.." <--- Too true. In fact, thats why im wanting a kite. I have a park on the other side of my road, and since i cant find a job, im all but going insane not being able to do anything! I think i can mow a yard for 20$ though =) I saw a kite in another town for 50$ but thats way more then i have (and that town is 300 miles away) I went kite hunting today, the only thing here in town is a plastic kite that you tie the strings to the wings and put a spacer in the middle and it basically immitates a stunt kite... 6$! I didnt get it.. haha The wind here is pretty light, today it might be 10-15, and it seems really windy. I just dont want to buy a kite that looks like a stunt kite, but is basically a glorified diamond. Perhaps ill get one in the next week or so and let you know if i can do anything! Anyone know any good places to find videos for how to do tricks?
-
They fly atleast, But all they are doing are loops... Makes me wonder.
-
yeah the prices are great! but i just wonder if they are built to look like stunt kites, or fly like them.. Lol

Hi there, when i was younger i used to fly the 5$ stunt kites from walmart, I knew they could do rolls and such, but Flips and everything ( such as ) I literally just found out about today!Needless to say my interest has been resparked and im looking to buy another kite. I want a cheap one because as of girth now i have a LOT of bills and i cant hardly spare enough money for gas, let alone kites. Anyway after surfing the internet i found these kites, they are nylon and fibreglass/carbon fibre. They are very cheap, But i was wondering if they would be flyable? Does anyone know, or know of a good kite <30$ that i could look into? http://www.mcgillswa...12821&TYPE=GOOG Thanks in advance! Edit: I might add that im not looking to be a pro or anything too fast, i just want something that would be CAPABLE of more than just loops if i tried... You know? Chikokishi
