  2. Because I am new to posting on this type of drawing..... I will close the entries as follows : 1 - Bumfish 2 - DeafThunder 3 - John Barresi 4 - edallsails 5 - jeepinjeepin I will wait for moderator approval to close and will run the 5 numbers thru RNG with a winner posted later today. (if this is incorrect please let me know) Good luck and thank you for showing interest in this drawing! T
  3. I have used mine numerous times last year in morning dew soaked grass and have not had any issues. That being said, the wood has 5 coats of hand rubbed friction based wax applied on the lathe. The same is true of the steel rods. They are polished thru 600 grit sandpaper and 5 coats of wax applied. They are not chromed as I don't make enough to be cost effective for getting them chromed. I simply wipe them down after a day of flying and have not had any problems. T
  4. Free drawing for 2 hand crafted kite stakes by myself and a wood hand turned pen as a bonus. These items are all crafted on a small wood lathe. Step away from the common golf ball stakes and stand out in the crowd. See rules below... The RNG will select the winner sometime on March 13th All you have to do to enter is post "I'm in" or some variation thereof. Standard Karma Note from the Moderators This is a Karma Drawing. The winner of the drawing is expected to pay it forward by offering their own prize for the next drawing. Please do not enter unless you are willing to offer your own prize, preferably not the prize you just won. Drawings should be open for entry approximately 2 weeks, and the next drawing should be posted as soon as possible to keep the Karma rolling. These drawings are run by and for KiteLife members. The moderating team only ensures that your drawing post contains all of the pertinent information (drawing date/time, adequate prize description, drawing rules) before approval. If you are a KiteLife forum member from the US or Canada, you are eligible to enter. You do not have to be a paid subscriber. Members from Canada, Alaska, and Hawaii are welcome to enter the Karma drawings provided they are willing to pay half of the Karma prize shipping cost. The method and timing of the payment will be agreed upon between the two parties after the drawing for a particular prize. Here is the link to the original Rules and Guidelines thread: http://kitelife.com/forum/topic/5426-rules-and-guidelines-please-read/ The mechanism for the drawing itself is entirely at the discretion of the person offering the prize. In the past, entry number has been determined either by order of entry or by the post number in which the member declares entry into the drawing. The drawings have been performed using the RNG method (http://www.random.org/sequences/) or by choosing the numbers out of a hat (I believe an adorable daughter did the picking in that scenario). The only requirement is that the method of selection is clearly spelled out in the drawing post. Entry into the drawings is done by STARTING a post in the drawing thread with the entry phrase chosen by the drawing host (Traditionally "I'm in", but "I LIKE" has been used as well). In order to remove any confusion or misinterpretation, only entries with posts that START with the phrase will be considered. As with all other KiteLife drawings, bantering is encouraged. This is for fun after all.
  5. Awesome! Thank You! I will post the next drawing just as soon as I read up on how and when I need to post it!
  6. Would love to have this in my kite bag, maybe another will come along when I have enough kites to be able to put something up in return. Unfortunately not this time around
  7. Can't wait to see who wins! Always great kites on this drawing!
  8. Eamonn, I recently went through what you are describing. bought a snapshot 1.2 for fun quick reaction dual line learning and got a symphony pro 1.8 shortly after because I was hungry for more. I enjoy them both but, wanted some power and wanted to learn 4 lines. I picked up a used Peter Lynn hornet 4M WHAT A BLAST!!!!! The key i have learned is that you need to know your limits and which kite fits the wind for the day. Trust me and others, heavy winds and a big powerfoil will carry you across the lawn but brakes help make it manageable, know your limits and have fun!!! T

I went back to look at all the contents in the kite bags as I was lucky enough to get a set of 50#/50' lines and found some short pieces of what appears to be bridle line to make new ones. Along with the handles which upon further inspection appear to be 15" Everything equal I would be a fool not to take your offer John!! I will send you a pm shortly Have I mentioned yet how incredible the members are on here! What a great resource especially for someone without a nearby kite shop. When you live in the middle of Nowhere Wisconsin most of the shops around here sell snowmobiling accessories or ski shops T

Thanks JB for the confirmation!! While this thread is still active, what is everyone using for handle leaders (if that is the correct term for them)? I received my kites this morning and a set of handles were thrown in but the black handle is missing line to attach the kite lines to. Also should I replace both handle leaders so right and left are mirror to each other rather than trying to match the red handle?? I don't have any spare line of any sort outside of 50# from single lines and I am sure that doesn't apply here so in the reccomdations can you tell me where to purchase?? Sorry for being a pest on simple things. I will try some forum searching in the meantime T

Well first off I would like to thank everyone for all the shared knowledge! I decided on the 90'/90# line set from TKS. I figured the 10' extra line later in life might offer better options to get 2 useful sets if they start wearing. Can't wait for tthe postal lady early next week T

    Line Advice

Looking for some opinions I should be receiving my first used Revs today in the mail I have bought a 1.5 SUL and a 1.5 SLE. I have 50# lines and handles that were purchased from Reef Runner for the SUL. My question is what is the best length recommended for the SLE? I read a bunch of posts and will most likely be buying LPG from TKS based on everyone's experiences but when it comes to length I am slightly undecided. When I look at what Rev's normally come with when purchased RTF they have 90' lengths. I see people saying they use 100' lines. Now I don't plan to fly with others that would require the 120' lines so that is out for the near future. So will i notice a difference between 90' vs 100' other than the $10???? Do you fly one length vs the other for a reason? If you choose100' is there a reason or is that all that was offered when you were looking?? The SLE has the older cloth sail on it so I don't know if that will affect my line choice??? Just want to make the right choice for the best experience as a newbie Thanks for the help!! T
  13. Makatakam I didn't get a chance to chat with any of the Rev flyers at KOLM. Too hard to talk while one is drooling at all the skills being displayed I do remember Jinx and her Green Eyed kite, hard to miss!!! hope to meet you next year!!! Not sure if it is ok for me to post a link so if it needs to be removed I understand... Here are some pics from a great show in the midwest https://www.flickr.com/photos/lesterpubliclibrary/albums/72157658158867912
  14. Hello to all the great members here!!! I might be new to joining but have been window browsing here for sometime now A little about how I started flying, I live in a small town about 30 miles east of Green Bay Wisconsin along the lake shore of Lake Michigan. This summer our town along with local businesses and the Wisconsin Kiters Club hosted our first "Soar on the Shore" event. I have always had interests in kites and own a couple small single line kites to enjoy with my 2 daughters but after watching a rather good turn out of flyers at this event I knew I was in trouble. Now I am one of those "jump in with both feet " types of guys and it wasn't long and I had bought a couple foil kites to play with. On Labor Day weekend I was able to get to a kite festival about an hour south of me called 2015 Kites over Lake Michigan. The amount of people attending a 2 day event in Wisconsin amazed me!!! Saturday the Lake decided to throw a wrench into things bringing some heavy fog and calm breeze but that didn't stop people from showing up. Now on Sunday the weather was great!! I was able to watch some dual stunt kite flying as well as some teamed Rev flying choreographed to the DJ's music. That is all it took, I was all in.... Now in a short period of time my kite bag grows. I have four used Prism duals in great condition and I am working with a member from a different forum (possibly even on here too) on buying a matching pair of gently used Rev 1.5s in SLE and SUL. Again I thank everyone here for sharing their insight and experiences as I am sure there are plenty of answers if I search for them to all the newbie questions I am sure to have along the way!!!! T
  15. Thanks for the Welcome!! I will head over and give a short intro...
