mjmbuck
I have a Joel K Scholtz American eagle kite with carbon fiber spars. I have replaced the spars several times. But they always fail even in light wind. Is there any thing stronger than the .23” carbon fiber tubes? I hate to retire this beautiful kite but I’m done purchasing replacement spars that don’t last for even one decent flight. I carefully cut the carbon fiber tubes to length with a dremel tool so as to not spoil the integrity of the spar but no matter, the spar inevitably fails! davide63
Like for like, fiberglass is not stronger than carbon fibre. A rod is tougher than a tube, but heavier. It looks to me the carbon tube is failing near the end. I would reinforce the end of the tube by bonding a snug fitting 1 inch length of wood dowel or bamboo skewer inside the tube. (Or even bond in another smaller short section of carbon tube). I hope that this helps.
mjmbuck
Thank you for the advice. You are right about the carbon fiber tube failing at the end. Are you saying to put a piece of wood or bamboo inside the tube? The inside diameter is very small…
