Prism Quantum re-frame

I have the beginner kite, not the Pro. Was thinking of doing a skyshark re-frame (p200 spine/LE, 5PT spreaders) just like the standard pro. With all the additional parts needed to do the re-frame (connectors, etc), it's going to cost as much as the kite, that is why I have my doubts. Am I better off buying another kite, a Nirvana, Krystal Fx, Transfer XTR or Sea Devil maybe? It's going to cost 3 or 4 times as the re-frame but it's a whole new kite. Any thoughts/comments anyone?

If you can afford it, I would definitely go for another kite. The Quantum reframed will fly a little differently, but it will still be a Quantum. Every kite design has its strong points and its lesser points - in other words, some will flip easily, but axel-based tricks are almost impossible. Another kite might have the exact opposite characteristics.

What that means to you, is that you might be doing everything right to get some certain trick to happen, but you might be working on the wrong kite.

And flying a different kite will illustrate things about the kite you already own, that you didn't know, and may have otherwise taken a year or more to learn.

btw, I currently own over 70 kites, and they are all a little different. If there was a "best" kite, I'd have probably flown it by now. There isn't.

Save your money for now. Start working on the basic tricks with the kite you have. There are other in the forum and maybe reviews of your kite that can tell you how far you can go. When you have learned the basics and most all of the tricks the Quantum can do, than take the money you have been saving up and buy the kite that you will not outgrow for a long while. I will be happy to share my thoughts on that when the time comes.

There are only two times I might recommend going to a new kite: If the kite you are flying needs too much precision to get the tricks learned. Again, I do not know about the Quantum. Or if after you have a few tricks down you really want to try some tricks that your kite will not do. Even then, find a kite club or group of flyers, save up your money while trying some of their kites out, you will get to see what other kites do and will have even more money saved up for the really great kite you want.

I am sure there are more comments to follow.

Have fun flying
