I have the Aura SUL and love it in 0-3 though it certainly can handle faster. It's slightly smaller though the tricks are definitely there and it's a nice flyer too. I also want to try the Ocius sometime as It's slightly larger than the Aura. I'm guessing you couldn't go wrong with either as Skyburner makes some excellent kites.

I did just send him an email. I want to be double sure I've done it right.

I reassembled the leading edge. On this kite you have to push the lower connectors down to be able to do that. I think I might have had them just slightly out of place. It seems a bit better now. I measured my spreaders etc. Everything seems right so hopefully it won't come apart next time.

Update. I received the kite on Saturday and somehow managed to not have the new kite curse. The winds were choppy and probably gusting up to 15 or so. I think I'm gonna like this new kite. It definitely handled the gusts better than my standards would have with smoother, less of a struggle feel in flight and I was able to get a few tricks out of it. Axles, half axles, fades. Mostly towards the edges. Wrapped some wingtips a few times and had some minor crashes (like I do). Still getting used to the kite. One thing I noticed about the kite was that the lower spreader connection where the ferrule is seems really slippery. I even had the lower spreader separate a couple of times and had to put it back together. That connections feels a little too slick to me. I don't think the winds were too high for the kite either. Any one have any suggestions on how to stop that from happening?

+1 on the Aura. I have the sul and it tricks and flies well in the same range as my 4D (which I do love as well, I learned a lot with that little kite) though is a much better kite for tricks and flight IMO. Of course it's more expensive but I think it's a great value if it means more flying time. Good luck in your search!

Cool Dave! Glad to hear you liked your DS. This will be my first vented so I'll have more of an opinion soon. What you were saying about tricking in higher wind makes sense to me. Thanks for chiming in and welcome!

Cool I most definitely will keep everyone posted about the vented Deep Space. Brian please do hit me up when you're in town. It's always so fun to fly with others! Reef I do fly with 150# 85' when the wind is in the upper range. I haven't tried anything heavier than that. Longer is another way to go but I don't have the line sets yet. I could see that being another thing to try.

Thanks for excellent advice guys. I ordered my kite today and will have it soon. Just in time for our potentially blustery spring season. I got to fly my Widow UL all day today. Perfect wind for it. It's probably my favorite kite in my bag since I get to fly it with a light breeze and easy slower flying. I love when the sweet weather coincides with my day off!

Thanks for the tip. I think I will give it a try. And yes we should fly together and compare notes. Do you go to any kite festivals?
-
I had a similar experience with John by the way. Not quite as dramatic but I watched him do some pretty hot tricking with my Widow in some pretty strong (for me) winds. I know my skills are coming but I'm still working on being more efficient in my inputs. I'm not quite there yet! More wrist snapping inputs (like a whip is what he described) I was having to run forward a lot to get the tricks and he was just snapping through with minimal forward steps. I do change the bridal for higher wind and stay on the edges especially for tricks like you suggested though have yet to try the wind screens.

Some pull is fun. Enough to get some "lean back". I also don't like getting pulled to where it feels like a struggle. I like graceful flying ideally, doesn't always happen though. I think I'm gonna try that vented Deep Space. Not a cheap kite but if I don't end up liking it I can always sell it and put the money towards a Rev full vent. I'll probably end up with both + several Revs. Also some single line deltas and a couple of gliders! I really just need some more kites! Lol I am hopelessly hooked.

Yes I'm definitely thinking about the trickable wind range for the most part and thanks for the response about the full vent. I was having difficulty finding much discussion on vented dual lines when I asked this question. Everyone's experience and opinions on these questions are appreciated for sure!
-
I have all my dual line kites up to 10mph I would say. At this time dual line is my focus. Main kites are Widowmaker/ WM UL/ Aura SUL. I feel my indoor to standard range is very well covered. With a vented my hope is that I might get a couple more mph on the upper range like 12 or hopefully a little higher. I actually have two questions here. Is a vented dual line kite worth investing in? The second is which Rev for when it's time to put the dual lines away? At this time I don't see myself flying quad when the winds are sweet for dual line. Not to hate on quad line but for my purposes I'm not trying to get all the Revs just yet. What Rob was saying about how a rev got in his bag really resonated with me. I guess I'm trying to decide between mid or full vent for my first Rev. If a full vent is 15 just to fly then I'm guessing a mid vent would be right for when I would fly a rev. I'm perplexed a bit.
-
There is nothing to be confused by. The low/mid wind range is absolutely great 3/4 of the time. I want to fly all of the time! (within reason)
-
I usually have light and variable wind half of the time when I fly. (less than 5) The other half would be probably a split between like 4-7 with the occasional storm coming where it's 8 gusting to 15. I think it's rare that it's a solid 15+ here.
-
That's a pretty kite Brian. Nice Aura SUL too by the way. I love mine as well.
-
So the dark side...I've been considering getting a mid vent for when the wind is too high for dual line. Does that seem like a reasonable plan or should I go full vent? It's a whole other can of worms that I'm sure I will open before too long.
-
I'm looking at the vented Deep Space. I also considered the Silver Fox and vented Soul. Qpro seems like a good option as well. Just wanted to hear opinions from people with experience with vented kites.
-
Hi all. I'm considering trying a vented dual line for when the wind gets to be past 10mph or so. I like slack line tricks and was hoping to extend my wind range a bit. Does anyone have any recommendations or opinions? Thanks!

I also use the bags from Into the Wind. I have the 48" which I use as my "B" bag for single lines and smaller kites. For my "A" bag I use the 62" which has all my full size dual line kites with the leading edge still assembled and they fit just fine.

I'm really looking forward to this too! I still haven't really had a chance to fly with many others as I'm still fairly new. Let alone take workshops from fliers who have inspired me. Once the date is announced I will definitely make it a priority to be there. Super excited and happy travels guys!
