R Moore Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 Good news! (I think) I am 90% sure that I located my 120 sq ft Conyne Delta after line broke during my altitude record attempt. This happened last year in April during retrieval of a kite at 3,500 ft above the ground. Ground and air searches failed to locate the kite but I recently found it on "Landsat" satellite images, 25 km from the launch point. I will be returning soon to the location hopefully to recover the kite, 4,500 ft of line, transmitter and GPS. I will attach an image at an eye level of 5,000 ft above the ground using Landsat and one from 130,000 ft above using Google Earth (when site admin gives me that function ). I am reasonably confident that this is the lost kite as it it is exactly on the predicted flight path and is within the search zone. my website will be back on line shortly at www.kiterecord.org Bob Moore Australia Quote
Backspin23 Posted August 9, 2006 Report Posted August 9, 2006 That has got to be the coolest way to find a kite I've ever hear of. I sure hope it works. Quote
R Moore Posted August 10, 2006 Author Report Posted August 10, 2006 That has got to be the coolest way to find a kite I've ever hear of. I sure hope it works. John has just eneble my image uploads - thanks John. The satellite images can be found in the Kitelife members image folders (I hope). One is from about 100,000 ft above ground level and the other is around 10,000 ft. I have included another image of the kite flying at a 1,000 ft. Sorry John, can't upload images despite compressing to under 50Kb each. Have successfully uploaded images to my album. Thanks John. Bob Moore Quote
