It is a good decision to buy a sewing machine when you like kites. When I had the same question (which one to buy?) I asked my old friend which machine does she use for her kites and she answered Janome. And that was interesting to know that she used a small budget machine for this. I'm now using Singer which costs ~$200 now. One funny thing with Google search (I've found this when I searched for good examples): If you are looking for "budget" sewing machines and type this, Google still offers machines for beginners. I've checked this and the prices here are not higher than $200 (maybe it's because of their size and functions). So, really budget units. But here, for example, not the same situation, and for my Google request fits only "Budget pick". Love Google.
