Sounds good to me, how does one participate or register?

Thanks for pulling this out of the archives Sari, count me in too.

Someone recently posted a comparison of Rev frameset weights, which I found interesting (as I typically have crap wind during the short times in the week that I can get out, and so, I do far more reading and thinking about kites than actual flying). Here is some additional data; weight and deflection, from the frame sets that I have: Rev "Ultralite' 3-wrap (3 feather label) 114g 4" Rev "Ultralite" 3-wrap (gold label) 93g 4 3/8" P200 76g 5 5/8" Rev "Professional Use" 2-wrap (2 feather label) 82g 6 3/4" P90 51g 10 7/8" 'Deflection' numbers (in inches above) are not meant to be any kind of absolute value for flexibility, but give some relative measures for comparison, and were arrived at by hanging a weight (an arbitrary* 558g) near the center of the suspended leading edge spars. The spars spanned two small tables 80" apart and roughly 26" high. (*actually the 558g weight was the most I could hang from the lightest spars before the bottom of my weight nearly touched the floor). The weight values listed above are for the full 5 piece frame sets. I haven't had enough experience flying them to comment on each of their characteristics while in use, but I thought this info might be of interest to some people here. I didn't notice any additional 'flex' after the weight settled at the deflection measures listed above.

Thanks, this is very useful information. Seems like the wider window, and reduced speed when using a longer heavier line might outweigh the benefit of less weight and drag with a shorter lighter line. Even with the strong possibility of low winds, it sounds like a 90# 100'+ lineset will be my initial line set, and then a lighter shorter set once i get the basics down. Meeting up with Hyzakite tomorrow to pick up a Rev and hopefully get some basic instruction.

Hi Wayne It's based on a lot of reading about flying, and very little time actually doing it. I am primarily in Toronto Ontario, the wind here this summer has been gusty at best and more often pretty light (1 - 4 mph). I've chatted with Dave at Kite Connection, and John at Kites And Fun Things about frames and lines and Revs, and again, tried to read as much as I can find. My thinking was, with light winds, I'll need all the help I can get, and that thinner line would be lighter with less drag. Would a 'standard' 100# 80' lineset not make much of a difference?

Hi Anybody have a Rev lineset and handles that they might want to sell? Looking for 50# in 75' - 90' size. Let me know what you've got and what you think a fair price would be. Thanks

Excellent! Got ahold of Chris Schultz at HQ and he confirmed the same. There are a two instruction pamphlets that come with the kite, turns out that the one mentioning tying the leech line into the nock is a generic pamphlet not specific to this particular kite. I can now fly this confident I am not making any kind of problem worse. Tried flying my new PL Hornet 3m in 20+ mph gusty wind today, as I am new to traction/power kites, there were some pupil dilating moments.... Again, thanks for your response Hadge , much appreciated

Hi Sorry if I am being dense, but on the Iinfinity kite, should the ends of the leech lines get tied into the wing tip nocks and then tensioned with the bungee on the center spine? This is what the accompanying manual seems to indicate, but manuals might not get revised with minor version changes of a kite. My new infinity doesn't appear to have the leech line ends coming out of the trailing edge near the nock, it's possible that the ends of the leech lines are secured inside the material of the wing tip, but I don't want to tension the bungee at the spine end of the leech line for fear of pulling a retracted leech line end even further into the kite (if they are supposed to be extending out of the wing tips). Cannot use the kite until this is resolved. Any advice greatly appreciated Thanks

WTB: Quad Line Power Kite 3m? (Ozone, Beamer, etc..)
Bolo replied to Bolo's topic in Kites for Sale, Swap or Trade
Not a problem, the 3m Hornet should get me oriented. Was thinking about a bigger kite for some pull on low wind days, but can look for a larger kite again once I've figured out how to fly a quad power kite, and know better where I want to go from there (water, board, etc..) Thanks again for your replies. . -

So it looks like have a PL Hornet 3m on the way. Can you please confirm which series of Beamer you have, (III, IV,??)? I think the link you sent was for a III but wanted to confirm. Thanks -

Hi Waiting for a response back on a PL Hornet and/or a Zebra, both 3m at ridiculous deals. These are current models I believe so I might opt for these if they are still available. Will let you know if it doesn't work out. A bit hesitant to get 'older' power kites (8 yrs old) and not sure where to price them either, but let's see where things sit in a couple days. Thanks for your offer, and the time you've spent digging them out. Cheers -

Mr Skin, Thanks for the power kite forum suggestion, checking that out. -

Thanks John. Any idea what you would be looking to get for your kites, assuming there are no raccoons nesting inside? Cheers, Mark -

Hi John If these kites are 'easily' extractable and not in key postions preventing an avalanche from occurring, I'd be interested in knowing what they might be. As I said, I am looking for something with enough pull to drag me around the sand, and with quad lines so I can learn how to steer this type of beast (isn't it a quote from George Orwell's book Animal Farm: "four lines good, two lines baaad"?). Thank you sir. -
Hello Wind was big here last weekend, and although I swore I had all the kites i could ever possibly want ( 3 of them! ), I now want something to drag myself around with. Anyone have a good condition quad line traction kite that's sitting closed up in a bag and ought to be getting some air? Was looking at a Beamer V 3m or Ozone Octane or ???? Preferably RTF with lines and handles. Thank you kindly!

Now have a 'low wind' Zephyr from Hyzakite AND a 'regular wind' Widow from Tkrinor. Guess I am set for all conditions now and won't ever have to buy another kite..... HA!

Hello All I've been starting out learning some low altitude manoeuvres with a Flying Wings Beetle (moves like the 'lawn-dart', and one I call 'negative clearance').. Would like to move on. I did manage something that looked vaguely like a half axel with the Beetle today, but I have the impression that a larger kite might be easier to learn on (given that I am doing my best to not treat it like a remote controlled shovel any more). Wanted to shake the bushes here and see what kites people had kicking around, perhaps no longer flew often, and might be interested in transforming into some bucks. You might laugh at some items on the list, as they are probably keepers that people are unlikely to sell, but you never know. My wish list - Premier Freestylist - Premier Widow - Premier Wolf - JoE Talon - Blue Moon Mantis - Blue Moon Muse - R-Sky Nirvana SE - Benson DS (haven't read as much about this one) - Skyburner WidowMaker I live on the north side of Lake Ontario and have access to 'beach like' winds, but generally the wind is pretty low here (4 - 7 mph? and lower) and can often be gusty when it gets stronger. (note: I have a shipping address in Buffalo, so don't let customs hassles worry you if you are in the USA) Would like to learn tricks in addition to just zinging gracefully around, but expect that I might continue to occasionally have unplanned contact with the ground so would like something that is relatively easy to get parts for, and maintain. Please let me know if you have any of the above or others that you think might work and you're willing to part with. Cheers

Hyzakite, sent you a PM about the Zephyr if it's still availalble. Sorry if this is hijacking the original thread...

Sadly, someone beat me to the Shadow. I wasn't really on the prowl for an UL at this point, but the nice graphics on the one offered and the reputation of the kite left me defenceless.
