  1. So recently I aquired a set of Shanti Skybond 100'x100# quads. I told myself in the beginning...I would fly both major makers and form my own views on what I liked. So no better time than now! I have flown a full year or so with LPG, different weights and lengths..so time for a change. I have about 50 hours or so on this Skybond set. I have to say that I am liking them. After flying opk with Skybond lines, my interest peaked even more... good timing as I am in need of all lenghts and weights again. My initial thoughts were super slippery. The coating used is great so far. A little color fade...but the set has been in the ocean completely for many hours...I swim and fly or float and fly. .hit sandbars...etc... I hope in the long term...this coating holds up, I dig it. Almost has waterproof properties when wet...sheds water very quick. On the plus side....no clumped up sandy lines when winding up Smaller diameter line compared to Lpg..which equated to less drag and a more direct feeling between me and the kite...almost like running a lighter weight line. I am tickled "yellow" so far and looking for the long term picture as I begin the switch..... I only have 1 gripe with LPG in the end...longevity. I have been wearing out sets at alarming rates...even with regular rotation.up and down..and switching ends. So we will see what transpires from a change this year... What do you fly and why? If you fly Skybond already.... what's your comparison to LPG?
  2. The B2 stack chat got me craving another multiples creation. So as stated...a Progressive was thrown together. B2 (2 wrap) B (3 wrap) Rev 1 (4 wrap) at around a 4' spread. I test flew on some 50#x50' Shanti Skybond in a light breeze and all felt good... The next day brought on some highly variable wind..up a down..all around.. but it gave me the chance to get some long lines out and let the 3some breathe. I flew 90#lpg x80' for a few. The gust were pretty strong and I have broken 90# several times with stacks. So I switched..200#lpgx100'. Here are the results... Of course the wind dies when you hit record. .. 7 minutes of raw..no editing...just a debut run. Things went well. Rev 1 needs some new shock cord to bring reactions up some...but all in all...great first roll. Progressive Fun:
  3. So I got the new camera. GoPro 3+ black and immediately made a rig from the packaging that night. The following day I met a friend who is a hard core kap fan (kapnut) in historic St.Augustine,Florida for some fun. He was nice enough to provide me with a loaner kite..a Fled. As we all know, I felt naked and 3 lines short What great fun! I pushed about 400' of line out and my new camera floating in the 300' range at one location (cross is 280' high)and walked the sea wall next to a historic fort Castillo de San Marcos and down the road along the sea wall with water on one side and traffic on the other.. Close to 600 pics total on a 5 second time lapse. The highest I have ever flown a slk...much less kite and camera. Most of the pics are fairly large and haven't had the chance to reduce the size. So here are a couple for a start. Unfortunately, these had to be cropped to fit the size requirment and keep the detail.
  4. I have not researched this ...so please forgive me if there is a thread dedicated to this subject. Been here a little while and don't recall ever seeing anything other than modded attachment methods via Jeff Burka somewhere. Has anyone attemted using a more foregiving bungee other than stock? It's storming and I am bored.... I would think that it would allow the sail to cup and grab air a little more...thus giving more frame flex. These kites and I don't exactly click. I can fly them fine...just doesn't feel right too me.
  5. What an adventure! 4 days of sun up to sun down flying with AWESOME people. A few loaded pics and a link to whats uploaded already. Some videos and more pics in the next day or so. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/k1movjyebbsk0qs/AADGqPljL-fsyoFzOK7uppr_a
