JoneZ
I was looking at a Prism Quantum as an option for another Kite Upgrade. I may have the opportunity to get one at a discount. I've watched some vids on this kite, and it looks super maneuverable, and pretty sharp turning. Anyone have any opinions on this particular kite? -cheers ~Jon
Dean750
Most of the time I think the pilot makes the kite. MOST of the time. How much is it, and what else out there compares? Not trying to change your mind, but I'm in need of a new dually for trickin' and I'm curious too. Currently I fly either the old MEFM or the pre 2000 Prism Illusion. Dean750
I almost forgot, remember what the average wind speed in your area is too. I have to consider 0 to 8 mph average.
JoneZ
Well, the quantum is about $90, and I havent found any professional reviews, asides from the manufacturer's. I've seen it in action on youtube (searched 'prism quantum'), and it looks pretty good, and flies excellent. Looks like one of those kites that really 'wants to fly'. Im pretty sure it comes with yoyo stoppers as well. Im looking for something big. Comparatively speaking in regards to my cherry bomb. 7ft wingspan seems good enough for me. hehe Glider let me fly one of his kites last weekend. Can't remember which it was, but it had about a 7ft wingspan. That was the first time I actually pulled off an axel. The Cherry Bomb just doesnt hold enough wind for me to do a lot of tricks. I mean, yeah, you can pull some off, but they look sloppy, and are hard to recover from. And forget about doing multiple tricks in a row. Reading up on kites and the dynamics of tricks, and wind for the past 3 weeks, has really given me a solid hold on how to maneuver a sport kite, so Im lookin to step up to something bigger, and a little more aggressive. In the Portland area, we've got pretty gusty winds - about 5-15Mph depending where you are. Closer to the Columbia it can be higher. Im in the Oregon City area, so with the altitude, and where I decide to go, whether here, or out to Canby, its a little more Constant, so I dont think I'll have to go for an ultra light. The price of the Quantum, the look, and the videos are enough to get me really interested in this kite. Just wish there were more reviews. Thanks for the advice Dean. <-- turning into a junkie for kite talk. My fiance thinks Im a geek. hehe.
Dean750
Since getting an account on this site, I have been viewed as a geek too The Prism Illusion was my favorite kite before I had to stop flying. So I'd imagine they have kites more capable than what it was. I don't remember a trick or angle that the kite couldn't perform smooth and consistant. I was looking at the Quantum Pro. What changed my mind on that one was the wind range or the lack there of compared to the kites I remember or fly. And the price for a 16mph wind range. Ouch. I have typically 1 to 6 mph winds here. If that.
JoneZ
I just ordered my Quantum from thekiteshoppe. Gonna pick it up tomorrow. I got the Citrus color. Very sharp. (Thanks Theresa!) Happy boy is I. Just in time for the beach this weekend. Gonna give my Cherry Bomb to my Fiance -- get her interested in trickin'. Would be cool to fly pairs with her.
