  1. Just received the Prism 4-D, and as a newbie I only have the Quantum to compare it to in terms of assembly. The Quantum has super easy nocks and bungees to set the wingtip tension. The 4-D has an insert instead with some line that is wrapped around it to adjust and set the tension. Does anyone have an up close video of how to insert this tip onto the leading edge and then knot it up correctly to keep it in place? I looked on youtube, but I guess wingtips attachments vary greatly. I foolishly released the original knot to attach it to the leading edge, but I'm uncertain as how to re-do it. So I figured, hey. there's another leading edge, I can just model the knot off the one I didn't release yet. But lol, repeated my mistake on the other side. Am I overthinking this one? Should I just do a wrap/tuck under type of know to hold them in place? Maybe do something of the sort twice on each end? Thanks in advance:) One more question...where do I hide new kites from my husband;)
  2. Hi Deb, I ended up purchasing a Quantum, and have a 4-D on the way. Shhhh, don't tell my husband that I am now inquiring about your purple and green Prism Stylus;) I think it could be great fun for our 13 y/o twins without having to worry about breaking anything if they crash. I've been considering a Prism Synapse for them, so this could make for a great gift for them instead. What kind of condition is it in and does it come with lines? Could you please tell me how much you are asking? Thanks so much:)
  3. Wayne, yes, it's coming with the 50' x 50# lines. Will play with those for a long time until I'm ready for shorter. Mental note to me, add shorter lines to wish list;) And Wayne and Breezin, wow, that is going to be hard to do with not pulling on the kite, but rather walking in and giving slack when faced with a potential crash. Science-wise, that totally makes sense, but I'm sure my instinct will be to pull. Thanks for the heads-up on that one, will try to get that ingrained:)
  4. Great advice, will do Wayne:) Thanks! Just checked out the Kaiju, beautiful kite! I ordered the 4-D last night, we'll see how I make out with it once I get some time on the Quantum. But I foresee the collection growing;) For now, hopefully those 2 and the cheap "Amazon-special" foil will be enough. Looking forward to running into you at the beach. Hoping to make it there tomorrow, but we'll see what the day brings.
  5. Thanks Wayne:) Looks like I will be re-purposing some longbow cases. The bows and the kites will have to take turns;) And yep, I added to my meager/newbie collection last night by ordering a Prism 4-D Tired of waiting for wind;)
  6. Thanks again everyone:) K.F., I was giving some thought to you not breaking down your leading edges. I'm liking that, and I have a few longbow cases that could play double-duty as kites cases. Now to fill them with kites;) Rob, you may win the bet as to what my second kite will be. Someone stop me from buying the Prism 4-D;) Hey, it comes in purple. How can I not? But will I kill it? I know I should dedicate my newbie hours to the Quantum. I'm guessing the 4-D is whole lot more less forgiving.
  7. Thanks for the kind words. Very much appreciate all the generosity in sharing knowledge and encouragement in this forum:)
  8. Thanks John!! Excellent videos. Love your attention to all the details. The whole twist & remove and thumb methods really make sense now. Much appreciated:) And wow on that gorgeous beach!
  9. I think I'll be getting a lot of use out of that feature;) Rob, what are your feelings about Prism's advice to attach the tail to those bungees? My gut says maybe I shouldn't have anything pulling on them, but maybe I'm being overprotective.
  10. I also e-mailed Prism Kites this afternoon with my question about attaching the tail to the Quantum. Wanted to share their thoughts. But I'm kind of liking your advice on using some line to make a loop and piggy tail it through the webbing. Here's what Prism said- "Thanks for getting in touch! We generally suggest clipping the tube tail onto one of the two bungie cords at the tail end of the Quantum’s spine. It doesn’t really matter which of the bungies you clip on to, as they are both close enough to the center of the kite that it won’t affect how the kite flies."
  11. Thanks Wayne and K. F., that makes sense:) Will go about it as you guys suggested.
  12. Thanks to you guys, success on my first assembly and dis-assembly of the Quantum! And you weren't kidding when you said fittings are tight! Now for my dopey question. Probably obvious, but I am missing it. How do you attach a tail to it? I ordered the Prism 75 ft. tube tail, should have it by next week. I don't see a little loop like the cheapy kites have. I see some parallel running bungee cord linked around the tail end. Somewhere around there? Is there some secret hidden area? And really, I'm not blonde;)
  13. Thanks guys:) I can't express how thankful that you guys have taken me under your wing (I couldn't resist the pun) and for looking out for this newbie Learning so much from all of you. And Happy Windsday...okay, enough puns;) Hope you are able to get out and enjoy some kiting today!
  14. Okay, you twisted my arm;) Tail ordered (doing a silent happy dance). My obsession now with AccuWeather and wind speeds and the extended forecast is comical. If I could just order great weather conditions. But I will try to patiently wait Quantum should arrive today and I will be like a kid on Christmas, practicing constructing it in the living room. I love the expression about the gentleman "flying off to better places." He'd be very happy I'm sure knowing his collection is going to someone else who will appreciate and enjoy them as he had.
  15. Hahahaha on the "stadium" Makatakam! So you're telling me one day I will look back and laugh at the single tote bag I currently store "all" my kite gear in? Can't wait! Quantum should arrive tomorrow and now I am kicking myself for not ordering the 75ft. tail. Now if it would just warm up a bit. Enough with the snow already!
  16. Lol Wayne, I'm looking forward to a stable of kites...thanks for the influence;)
  17. I may have to make a visit to Canarsie with the kiddos to re-live those moments from my childhood:) And I think I will be making a kite a permanent passenger in the car. Love the idea of taking a break from traffic to fly. Looking forward to flying with you Rob
  18. Breezin, your response really put a smile on my face:) Some of my fondest memories of my grandfather were the times we spent together flying cheap kites off the Canarsie Pier in Brooklyn when I was a child. So great for you to share your love of kites with your great grand daughter. Had the hubby and my girls out today in 8mph inconsistent wind, just with the starter foil and a single line delta as we wait for the Quantum to get here, but still had a great afternoon of good old fashioned family fun. As always, I thank you for your generosity in sharing so much insight. I'm soaking all this up.
  19. I just looked up how to do a figure eight knot. Thanks gentlemen! You'd think with my mad crochet skills I'd know that knot already;) My husband teases me that I must have been a cat in a former life, as all my hobbies seem to involve string, from crocheting to teaching archery and making my own bow strings. So it's only natural that kites have been added to the fun!
  20. Thanks, you make an excellent argument for getting another Quantum in the future...I may use your reply to justify the purchase;) And I love your SPM line. Thanks for the input!
  21. Thanks so much KF. Excellent info, especially on adding that extra mph on the low ind range. Even on our parafoil, I am seeing it takes more wind than the manufacturer specs. say. Heading online now to window shop the osprey, but you're probably right on saving the cash and aiming for a 2nd Quantum at some point. For now, at least the kiddos have the foil to experiment with.
  22. Thanks KH:) We bought an inexpensive 2 line parafoil from Amazon that we've been really enjoying. That might be the way to go for now, another one for the other twin so they can both get flight time, while I play with the Quantum. As for hubby, if he's good lol, maybe a Quantum is in his future for his birthday;)
  23. Eagerly awaiting the arrival of a Quantum...supposed to be a "family kite" for hubby, 13 year old twins, and myself. Well, what if this newbie can't share lol? Might want to get the kids their own, and even though the $100 for the Quantum is low for veteran kite enthusiasts, for us it was a splurge. Any recommendations on a lower priced kite... doesn't have to have loads of trick-ability, but is pretty durable, and will offer the ability to do some minor stuff? Would the Sky Dog Little Wing fit that? Is that a better choice than the Beetle or Jazz? Once again, thanks in advance
  24. Enjoy your flying today Rob:) Too cold for me lol, but hope to see you at Cedar sometime soon
  25. Ouch Breezin! I think I would have shed some tears, sort of like that first scratch on a new car. I definitely appreciate the advanced warning that these things will happen...I must prep myself mentally;) Thanks for the repair tips, this will be a great reference for me. I just put some clear rip stop repair tape into the good old Amazon cart, and will add some glue to it too. Oh and by the way, as for my next kite...those Widow NG's are looking good! The videos I've been watching of them are spectacular. You must have a blast with yours. Snowed-in in NY, but hoping for better weather soon to get out and fly
