  1. I just ordered a Prism Quantum So much for waiting lol. Hey, life is short, might as well eat dessert first;)
  2. Hi Deb, are any of the Quantums still available? If they are could you tell me which colors you still have, how much wear is on them, and what they cost? I'm very new to this, but looking forward to moving up from our low-end starter kites.
  3. Based on all of your insight, I think I've narrowed it down to either the Wolf NG or the Prism Quantum. Both will have to wait a bit as I "fill the piggy bank" some more Was hoping to keep it around the $60 mark with something like the Prism Jazz, but you guys have me convinced that spending some more will help to get the right start. Out of those two, which would you pick? And thanks again everyone
  4. Trying to thank everyone here, but not being very successful in using the forum response box;) But all your insight is much appreciated. I am an info junkie and always eager to share any knowledge I have about subjects that I love with people who want to learn, so that's why I am truly appreciative for everyone's help:) You guys are great. I had no idea stakes even existed;) A lot to learn, but looking forward to it. Rob, I hope we can meet up. I am really enjoying your videos and I hope you don't mind that I have shared them with some friends. Definitely breathtaking. Well, I am off to do some online window shopping for the kites you recommended. Happy flying everyone!
  5. Have only flown SLK casually with my family here and there for years, always filled with smiles. Purchased a beginner dual line parafoil and gave it a try today. Had a blast. Looking to purchase a dual line delta and have seen lots of talk here for Beetles and Prism Jazz (I like that this has a wider wind range), trying to stay in their price range. Insights over which one (or something else) to go for? Background info, flying on Long Island with my hubby and I sharing with our 13 year old kids (durability a plus!). Thanks!
  6. Yet another newbie question. Took the DLK out for the first time today and our family had a blast. Also took an older single parafoil out, but I need to attach a swivel hook to a new line. I'm thinking that a larkshead knot is the way to go, but is there a preferred way of making the permanent loop in the line so that I could go ahead and attach the swivel with a larkshead? Should I just make a loop a few inches long using a plain old overhand knot?I watched some videos on tying a fishing line onto a swivel, but those didn't use a larkshead at all. Or am I going about this the wrong way? Thanks in advance:)
  7. Thanks S.R., that makes a lot of sense. I think that is how I will feel most comfortable too with the hoop. I'm very appreciative of your description and explanation. Now hoping for some great weather to try it out:)
  8. Thanks so much K.F.! Super helpful information. And I hadn't even considered what sand could do to the reel. Great advice, will keep that one away from the beach. I really appreciate all your insight, thank you
  9. Thanks so much! Went to Cedar Beach the other day, had some minor success, but looking forward to more:) If you see a lady and twin teens, it's probably us
  10. Thanks Rob As we entirely messed up our old lines (twisted them terribly lol in a very gone wrong manner) and became knotted, we picked up some cheap ones through Amazon. Will be interesting to give them a try and hope for better re-windings;) The novice approach of reaching for line and wrapping it around was not the way to go;)
  11. Rob, I just watched your Snow Devil video from 2015. Absolutely gorgeous. I had no clue those types of movements were even possible. Great music too
  12. I must watch your videos Rob! Sounds like I lucked out that we're both on Long Island:) And I have no clue what my preference is yet;) Just playing around with some inexpensive single line parafoils and an In the Breeze Rainbow 50 Inch Sport Kite - Dual Line Stunt Parafoil just came in the mail that we are super excited to try.
  13. Embarrassed to ask, super newbie question, but here it goes. Purchased an In The Breeze Hoop and a ball bearing winder reel. When holding the hoop and facing the air borne kite, should the line be coming from the front (facing me)/top of the hoop or from the bottom? I'm not sure how else I can phrase this, I hope it makes sense. I did see a video where it appeared the line was feeding from the back/bottom and through the "keeper hole" (for lack of kite vocabulary) at the top of the reel. Somehow, with the hoop though, it seems more natural to me to hold the hoop where the line is let out from the part facing me/top. Maybe it's a matter of taste akin to how we hang the toilet paper roll lol? Am I over thinking this?
  14. Thanks for the welcome:) And exactly what I was thinking, we have so many beautiful beaches, it's surprising that there aren't more kite flyers here. Thanks so much for the info. Jones Beach is definitely on my list of places to fly.
  15. This is my first post, and although my family and I have flown kites for years, our experience is that of the very casual, novice flyer. But we're hoping to learn more from this group and become more active in the world of kite flying Does anyone know of any events or kite festivals on Long Island? Or within close proximity? Thank you in advance.
  16. Thanks for adding me and welcoming me to the forum My family and I have always loved casually flying kites. For me it brings back memories of flying kites with my grandfather off the Canarsie Pier in Brooklyn. And it is wonderful to re-live that joy with my children. We're looking forward to expanding our knowledge from this group and getting out a lot more to fly.
