A $30 Spectra Sport twin pack (a diamond dual line and a delta dual line) gifted to me by my mom on a family trip to Litchfield Beach, SC hooked me on kites and stunt kites in particular. A couple of trips to Treasure Island and St. Pete Beach on the Florida Gulf Coast added an Alpha+ and the education that sunscreen on the top of the feet is a necessity when flying. That was also the first time I touched a Rev. There was a bit of a lag during college when I only flew occasionally, but trips to Charleston, SC with the woman who was to become my wife added a love of the thrill of a dual line power foil and then the enjoyment (i.e. crack-like addiction) of MY first Rev...a Rev II. Yeah, I learned to fly quads on a twitchy little deuce. Then, while trolling around the AKA website looking for a club in my area to fly with, I came across the Corolla Island Airheads, wondering where in the world this island named after a tiny Toyota was located. After locating it at the northern tip of the NC Outer Banks we decided to take a vacation there, and that's when I met the folks that would become my dealers. Cath and Eliot Shook run a fabulous little kite shop called Flying Smiles Kites on Corolla (kuh-rah-lah). Eliot is a Rev Masterpiece maker...he of the meshed vented Revs. Cath is an accomplished flyer. Together they have lead me down the path of ruin, and my wife and I have made the annual trip to my kite Mecca every year since. I love flying anything. Single lines, dual lines, Revs, power kites, whatever. Happiness to me is ripstop in the air.
