I had this exact same think happen with the lower spreader of my Hypnotist. I went to assemble it and only 1/4" of the ferule was sticking out. I thought I had broken it off because it was flush with where it should have come through the center-T. So I bought 2 new lower male spreaders (one for a spare). When I went to put it together it happened on the new one. So I checked the old one, and pulled on the 1/4" sticking out, and voila, the entire ferule was still there. So now I have three lower male spreaders. Need some good glue.

Agree with everything here, especially about being well-equipped. Ironically enough, I live in the "Ocean State" but about as far inland as you can get (so instead of Rhode Island, it is Rhode In-land). And the wind gods are cruel here as well. For the last month I have been stuck indoors studying for a test watching really nice breezes we get this time of year. Now that I have taken the test, right on cue, the summer doll-drums have set in. But...I took Hadge's advice from a while back, and made a set of 30' and 20' lines, and managed to get in an hour today in some really squirrely light winds on lunch break. If I had tried the original 50' lines, the kite (4D) would have stalled out right after launch. So thanks to poster's here, I had the right equipment making it possible to get in some much needed flying time. And I can't wait to get to a beach with steady winds and show off the new skills (as limited as they may be .

Nice. I had trouble with the Dodd video using ffmpeg and another called Handbrake. Maybe i will try DVDFab on it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I used another free one called ffmpeg. It is command-line so a little harder to use but works great. If yours doesn't work out I can post the commands I used. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Nice. Seat belts last forever. We got my mother in law a pocket book made from seat belts because she destroys them. Next time I go by the salvage yard I may have to pick up a length. I doubt Jo Ann's fabrics carries it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Checked out the you tube stuff and it looks like most if not all is out there. Some of the YouTube videos don't look familiar so those are not on the DVD I have Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks for the replies. I will try sewing for now and if I can find some kind of fabric to line it even better. If it happens again I will have to get more creative (like plasti-dip or something similar). The wind came up a bit and I didn't have my Hypnotist handy. Should have packed up but haven't flown in a while. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Spine poked through the nose today. One too many lawn darts I suppose. Any repair suggestions? Thinking of just sewing it closed. Any particular stitch, reinforcing, etc.? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The entire video is about 1:40. Haven't seen the You Tube stuff yet. I will check it out and get back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have both Flight School and Dodd's. I find they compliment each other. Dodd's PIP and commentary are realy helpful. I was able to rip the Prism video easily to my PC and use free software to break it into "chapters" and load it to my iphone. Now I can watch it anywhere/anytime. Will probably do the same for Dodd's at some point. But if it's all on You Tube, might not bother. Also, all the stuff in the comments here and other sights will really break down a trick and add valuable real life experience.

I have been thinking about doing this to my new Hypnotist also. Now that I see how simple it is I will do it. Thanks for the thread and thanks Hadge for the link with the pics. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Gonna have to change the topic title now to "You Won Today". Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Tmadz I feel your pain only worse. I grew up with a beach at the end of my street - a 5 minute walk. Now I am an hour from the coast, in RI no less. Around here direction plays a big part. Anything out of the NW will be inconsistent whereas anything with a southerly component will be sweet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That about sums it up. Except you left out the part where once in a while the wind cooperates, you are completely dialed in, and get hooked all over again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Maybe I should rethink that subscription of mine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Free version is good if you are near the free meters... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

A word to the wise regarding their forecasts: for some reason it will always be windy a week out according to their models. Being from New England I don't believe anything more than 3 days out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Subscription is a little pricey but worth it for me... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Circling back to the original topic regarding wind data and forecasts, I subscribe to a site called iwindsurf.com (or ikitesurf.com) and they make all of their wind data available to subscribers via an app called Wind Alert (as well the good old-fashioned website). Their meters are updated every 15 minutes. I used to windsurf a lot and found this to be a valuable tool to let me know if the wind was blowing an hour from where I lived. It provides a nice graph of the wind at the site, depicting gusts and lulls as well as the average. This gives a good feel for how steady the wind really is and if it is picking up or dropping off. Now I like this tool for their forecasting so I can plan kite flying days. As for local flying I still use the oldest method around, I look at the leaves on the trees (aka the Beaufort scale).
