sourenU Posted April 10, 2023 Report Posted April 10, 2023 I am still very new to sewing kites so I would really enjoy some recommendations on some good kites (plans with links please) to build. I think I would like to start with a quad kite as a freestyle dual line seems daunting. Also where do people get lines from, I looked online and they are soooo expensive. side note: Do those tiny kites fly, has anyone tried (if you don't know what im talking about il put a picture below) they crack me up but it would be so cool if they flew Quote
Michael Marmaras Posted April 11, 2023 Report Posted April 11, 2023 Made plenty of tiny dual line kites and they fly with very strong winds usually. Don't get hung up on line quality. Spectra is non stretchy and can wrap alot without friction but crazy expensive. Polyester line is fine and really cheap. I suck at quad line flying so prefer dual line kites. Quad kites are very easy to sew and the revs can be framed with a kit from Kites and Fun Things for a great price. CXL sky shark rod kit specifically for Quads. I suggest bungee tension on quads. John Barashi can probably help you out because he IS THE QUAD KING. He designs and builds his propriototy kites. One of the worlds best quad fliers. Whatch his Dr Drea water skipping ballet. So smooooth. Quote

Michael Marmaras Posted April 12, 2023 Report Posted April 12, 2023 I advise to cut your sail into half pieces then sew the middle with Dacron strip. Orientate rip stop pattern parallel to outer spars. Way easier than multiple pattern pieces. Bungee sail stretching is easier than Vlelcro and easier Quote
Michael Marmaras Posted April 12, 2023 Report Posted April 12, 2023 Make a few Hata fighter kites. Best fun for no money? Quote
Michael Marmaras Posted April 12, 2023 Report Posted April 12, 2023 Your plans won't turn out like you expect so just sew and frame up. Bridle type is important to success so make all spar attachment points adjustable with lackheads. Quote
Michael Marmaras Posted April 12, 2023 Report Posted April 12, 2023 A Rev Quad would probably be the easiest to sew. You can even make it out of a single piece of fabric. Happy Sewing! Michael marmarasmichael@gmail.com Quote
sourenU Posted April 12, 2023 Author Report Posted April 12, 2023 cool!, I have made a lot of fighter kites, not as much as you have though, I found a cool design for a quad that I like, know where I can get cheap handles? also how do I trace the design onto the fabric Quote
