Mr C Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 I've flown a Rev II for years on 75' of 85#. Really enjoyed it. Now, I bought a Rev I to add to my collection. I got the SLE leading edge (boy, it is wide). Am thinking about getting a 3-wrap SUL leading edge for lighter winds. Am I on the right track? Also...about lines. My only set of lines are the original ones I've been flying on the Rev II (see above). I want to get new lines for both Rev's. Was thinking about a set of shorter lines (50' - 70' ) and a set of longer lines 85 - 100 foot. Should I get the shorter ones in a lighter #, or the longer ones in the lighter # ? I want them to be interchangable on both Revs so I can match more wind conditions. Thanks in advance Quote
windofchange Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 90# lines seem to work in all lengths and on all Rev's (except the speed series which I would recomment 150# and the power series which could even be stronger). The only line you would need differently is if you are looking at flying in the super duper ultra light conditions then maybe going to 50# in various lengths. For the EXP, REV II, Rev 1.5 SLE, Rev I & Barresi Series - 90# is all you need in pretty much any wind conditions and length. Quote
Spence Watson Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 I use 90# on nearly every kite I have. The only kites I would make an exception on is a Rev Indoor, or a modified Rev 1.5 flying Indoors (Using 50#) or speed series or power revs (150#) The shorter the length, the faster the kite wil seem, plus there will be slightly less weight. With longer lines, you have more room, it slows the kite down, but it adds weight. Quote
Steve Posted October 18, 2007 Report Posted October 18, 2007 You are on the right track. Get rid of that SLE. It's like trying to fly with a piece of iron pipe on the leading edge. About the only time you would ever need it is in very high winds, and I say good luck to that. 90# line is real good for about every condition, unless you are cursed like me with very low or next to no wind. I have a bunch of 50# and 60# sets, both long and short. Have fun Steve Quote
Penny Lingenfelter Posted October 19, 2007 Report Posted October 19, 2007 I still claim the title of drag queen .. I create so much drag on my kites that I was busting 50 lbs. Most people don't put thier kites through thye paces I put mine through though. This was before I had the indoor. 50lbs is ok, but so is 90 lbs on the indoor. I remember when everyone had to have a SLE. They are not a dirty word. They require a little more wind, and do just fine. You got a Rev I with a SLE? I didn't know they made those. Do you have a 1.5 yet? You can use 90 lbs for short or long till you get so good that little lag in the line just bothers you. Or if you get 50 lbs.. don't kick your kite, play in the water or rain, and don't man handle it. lol If you are going to go long for high wind, you might as well go all out and do the 120 ft. so if you run into another Rev flier you can play. If you are not near any other fliers, then it's really not necessary. The 100 ft. will work just as well. In fact I still have my original Rev. I lines.. 100 ft. 100 lb.. probably cut down closer to 90 ft. Or go 200 ft. so you can dog stake too. ok... don't .. till you have the other line you need. I recommend that when you equalize your lines over time to cut a foot shorter to change the wrap/pressure points. Have fun, and remember everyone will have their own preference...so what ever works for you. BB Penny Quote
