Ge99ne Posted June 28, 2004 Report Posted June 28, 2004 Hi Just got a shockwave and I love it. But the video shows joe pulling a loop over a knot. I don't see how this can be done on mine. Does anyone here know if the endcap was redesigned since the video? Quote
CLTKiter Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 Hi Ge... I also have a Shockwave, but didn't get the video. My endcaps don't have a loop to go around (I assume) the vertical spar. However, I also have a Blast, and the Blast does have the loops to go around the vertical spars and the video shows that setup. So if there's an update, we're both out of luck! Fast little bugger, isn't it! Later, Doug Quote
Ge99ne Posted June 29, 2004 Author Report Posted June 29, 2004 Yes this thing is pretty fast. What I like about it is it's so much more stable than the backtracker I learned on. I met Joe from rev kites a few weeks ago at a kite festival in Kitty Hawk. He said after sticking with that thing I should be able to fly any of thier kites. I flew the 1.5 & the powerblast in 25 mph winds at the festival. the blast was on 90 lb. lines so I had to be very dainty with it. Even barely moving their was enough power to swing from the line sets as it was going over head. The loop I was talking about pulling in the video was sticking out of the end cap. it was supposed to double back to the sail along the leading edge & catch on the knot in the bungie at the sail. The sail looks to fall at least an in shorter than mine does along the leading edge. That's the other reason I feel like mine won't do what they show in the video. Quote
CLTKiter Posted July 1, 2004 Report Posted July 1, 2004 Hi Ge, First of all, I envy you. I was at the Outer Banks a couple of months ago, and believe that I just missed the Kitty Hawk kitefest. If you're a flyer anywhere near the Charlotte area, I'd like to introduce you to the WACKOS (www.wackos.org). Back to your original questions. I've reread your post, and I'm a little confused. First of all, I don't do anything at all with my leading edge endcaps. They came configured and I don't do anything with them. Here are pictures of them. The first two pictures are of both sides of my upper endcap. The third picture is what I was talking about with my Blast having a loop that you could put the vertical spar through. It appears to me that the Blast has the same setup on the upper cap as my shockwave. However, the lower endcaps of the Shockwave don't have the loop that the Blast has. Hope I haven't confused you. Ge99ne Posted July 7, 2004 Author Report Posted July 7, 2004 Thanks for sticking with this post. and thanks for the picks also. I never seem to be able to get my kite, card reader & camera at the same place to take a pick of this. The only pick I don't see is the caps for the ends of the super leading edge. The ones that insert into the leading edge, in lieu of the caps that are bungied perpendicular to the leading edge. I have to admit I really had issues the first time pulling the caps on the leading edge around to the back side of the kite. I went back to the shop to see one assembled to be sure. My paper assembly instructions were for a rev 1. There are certainly differences between these two kites. The reason I ask about the loop over the knot thing is there seems to be a tendancy for the leading edge material to bunch some in the center of the sail in high winds. The leading edge pocket is so tight it may not be possible for the bungie to pull it back out. oh I found a shot on http://www.monkey-boy.com/REVisions/supersonicgallery.html I'm not sure if its wind pressure doing it or if high speed tip landings are the culprit. Traveller Posted July 8, 2004 Report Posted July 8, 2004 oh I found a shot on http://www.monkey-boy.com/REVisions/supersonicgallery.html Well my all-new (with mylar panels) SS has the same LE caps as the one depicted above. And what a shame, here I am on the "Costa Del Sol" (Spain) with nothing but my 1.5SLE & the winds are nearing the 25Knot marker... boohoohoo, waaaaah Next time, I'm taking all my Revs with me!!! Buenas Tardes, Quote
Penny Lingenfelter Posted July 8, 2004 Report Posted July 8, 2004 Traveller, a vented Rev. II and a 1.5 and you can fly in anything, anywhere! I'm not making this up. I wouldn't worry about a little bunch on the kite sail, Ge99ne. It's a little noisy, but you shouldn't loose enough efficency to be concerned. You can still tighten bundgees at the points if you need to tighten the sail. Best breezes, Penny Quote
CLTKiter Posted July 9, 2004 Report Posted July 9, 2004 End Cap. End Cap. DUH Yeah, you did say end cap. Well, on my non-mylar Shockwave, it's exactly the same as the picture. Sorry for ignorance... Doug Quote
Browser Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 My Shockwave was as pictured and, because I am learning to fly Revs with mine (first Rev) it is hitting the ground a lot First flight had it hitting the ground and popping the end caps out a tad. I then got a copy of the Rev training DVD (my SW was second-hand) and saw the end cap fixed as you describe. SO last night when I took it out for it's second flight with me I undid & retied the shock cord like that on the video. It is a bit of a bugger to get on but seems to hold the sail much tauter. I had a sublime 60 seconds of control amongst the crashes and walking out to reset the kite, AGAIN, so's I could re-launch it. DOes anyone tell you that a stake is essential kit when learning the SHockwave as I can't for the life of me get the launch-off-the-belly trick he shows in the DVD (grab the upper lines and pull sharply, Rev lifts off ground, pull brake lines to set sail into wind and up she goes) to work, can anyone else? I'm glad to see someone elses has the rubber rings round the end of the spars like mine does but the video one doesn't That apart, I'm desperately trying to speed up my reflexes to Neo-in-the-Matrix pace as that's what you seem to need to keep pace with the thing When I learn to control &, more important, dive-stop the thing I'm going to have LOTS of fun Quote
