Half the year the Yankees hide inside because of the cold and half the year the South Floridians hide from the heat, rain and humidity! So, it’s “PROJECT TIME” for me! My first project this summer is a new “KITE BOX”, because I have more Revs this year then last and I needed more room. I prefer a box to a bag so when I slam the truck doors on it I don’t have a heart attack, and it can get wet without having a mess! And I like to have everything in one place too, so I don’t have to remember anything (even if I could! heehee!). Here it is! I really had a rough time with this thing. If you notice all the decorations on the lid, well...they weren’t planned. I had to put stuff all over the lid to cover up all the ugly holes that I drilled into it to put in the kite holding things and the “stash” compartment. But, it came out looking OK anyway. It presently holes 4 Revs., 8 line sets (in bags ea.), 4 kite stakes, 3 sets of handles, about 10 extra sets of rods, and a bunch of parts, bridles, suntan lotion, cigars etc., etc., in the stash compartment on the lid--under the kites. This is the stash compartment. The kite holders are 3/4" pieces cut off of 2" plastic coupling and you just over slide the end of the kite (without the bag) through one side and then into the other side and center it. I made one for my train of Rainbow kites, and I am in the planning stages of a couple of large storage/transport boxes for other kites. Thanks Pete, Yeah...boxes are great and I really like the look of wood grain "AND" I have to have something to do when not flying! I used 1/4" oak plywood for this one...lots of little bitty nails...and lots of wood glue! heehee! I keep my dual liners in long PVC tubes that feed from both ends with screw caps. And I strap a few of those together with a nylon handle and have a small canister of descant in each tube. That set up isn't as pretty, but it's almost indestructible. I'd go with a box with them too, except my Nirvanas are a slight hassle to break all the way down, so I leave the leading edge intact which makes a long tube more practical. I try to take good care of my kites...Heck!! I figure there is about $3000 in that Rev. box alone. And, "Yes!" it has a sound and visual alarm system and a "Lo-jack" tracer in it and if opened without turning the alarm off first...blue dye packets on each end blow up! Keep It Up!
