Nick Russell
I won the Rev Supersonic in last week's karma drawing and am looking forward to learning to fly a quad line kite. It does not come with lines and I'm not sure what I need to get. Any advice for greenhorn Rev owner?
mystainedskin
I'm not sure what size handles that one had, but i'm sure someone will let you know real quick. The cheapest way for lines is bulk. Buy a roll of Laser Pro Gold in the proper strength...150#?I think....and get some hollow core dacron line from the local fishing shop.. .10cents a yard here....or buy a precut kit from the kite shop. I use 80#dacron for sleeving, but multiple sizes, colors and strengths available. In no time you will have multiple sets and line to spare......instead of one.
SparkieRob
The Supersonic comes with 11" handles and MOSTLY 80' x #150 lines. Go longer if you want. Use #90 in lighter winds if you want. I've flown one on 80' x #90 and response is electric!
bbailey49
The speed series kites and the rev2's come with 11 inch handles, but I prefer the 13 inch handles for both. The 11 inch handles put less input into the kite since they won't move as far with an equivalent rotation as the longer handles so people say that's better for the twitchy kites and for beginners, but I always felt like the control with the short handles was squishy and unresponsive even when I was learning. I fly 80' 175# Skybond on my sonic vented, and I fly Skybond on all my revs. It seems to slip better than the laser pro gold to me. I'm not putting LPG down, It's great line. I simply prefer how the Skybond feels. You are entering the dark side, Nick Russell, where you will soon learn there is no one answer for any question.the best way is to get the kite in the air and learn what you like. We are never lacking in opinions though.
Reef Runner
Nick, my personal preference would be 100' x 150# Laser Pro Gold, or any other top quality spectra line, along with a standard set of 13" handles (the Supersonic normally comes with 11" handles). 100 foot line, is just "my" favorite length to fly with. Others will have their favorites, also, so that's a personal choice you'll have to make. The longer lines will give you a bit more reaction time, especially while you are learning, and you could even go with 120 foot, but not necessary. I would also get 150 pound test, for the Supersonic, no matter what length you decide on. As for the LPG, most people will recommend this as the best line, and that is probably true, but there are other choices out there. Just get a good brand, and you'll be fine. PM sent to you with contacts..........
