audioRob Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 After flying me 1.5 for a month now and getting pretty decent with it (meaning I have all the 'rev basics' down as listed by rev and a few tricks), I got some good time with my new rev I today... Wow. WAY different. I spent most of the day just flying loops because that's about all I could manage heh.. So for now I just need to get used to it, I like it a lot more. The general feel is more solid and fun. Compared to the 1.5 which is kinda just.. there. I get excited to fly the rev I. So the 'problem' I had is on some dive-stop's the kite had way too much inertia. I tried pulling, ripping, jerking, popping the bottom lines, being careful to keep my hands together and many times the kite would just keep going. Lines are perfect, bridle is correct, handles are good... The kite was in in control on the way down, no 'floating' to be seen. What would cause this? It didnt happen every time, most of the time I could dive-stop decent (except the rev I feels a lot squishier and slower to stop, but Ill figure that out) and occasionally it would just keep flying into the ground, usually accelerating rather than stopping. Dorsal Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 For dive stops, step toward the kite at the same time you snap the brakes on. That will dump the wind from the sail, just as the brakes are applied. If the wind is blowing pretty good, you may need to leap toward the kite. Whatever it takes, dump the wind from the sail as you apply the brakes. Quote
John Barresi Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 Sounds right, it will just come down to time on the kite... It's bigger, and requires a different style. Quote
monkey Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 What I find is that with a 1.5, you can use a pretty small flick of the thumbs to make it stop pretty suddenly, but, a 1, I tend to throw my thumbs forward quite a bit harder. It becomes more of a sudden snap. Quote
Mike Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 I usually throw my arms foward. I don't find the need to step forward, unless maybe if it was really windy. I think something that can really help is to add pigtails to your handles (let me know if you don't know what I mean) and to shorten the bottom lines to add more brake. Quote
John Barresi Posted October 29, 2005 Report Posted October 29, 2005 I actually back up a touch sometimes when I do hard stops. Quote
audioRob Posted October 30, 2005 Author Report Posted October 30, 2005 I made myself some very neat handles today that are customizable length Ill post pictures soon as I finish them completely. They just need some padding... which I have covered I think. Also redid the pigtails and all is wonderful now. *sigh* my Rev I is now by FAR my favorite kite. W00t. Quote
Mike Posted October 30, 2005 Report Posted October 30, 2005 I watched myself do dive stops today. For a regular stop I just do normal braking--my hands are relaxed and then I squeeze the handles into my palms when I stop. For a faster dive, I pull my hands in to my body during the dive to speed it up and then throw my hands out when I stop it. Quote
audioRob Posted October 30, 2005 Author Report Posted October 30, 2005 Dive-stops not a problem anymore btw. New handles rock. They're at about 18" right now with a 45deg bend (as opposed to the 55deg or so in the standard handles I have). Best part with these handles is I can change the length in just a few quick seconds Quote
monkey Posted October 30, 2005 Report Posted October 30, 2005 k, once I stop snickering at the dog stake icon.... a more philosophical approach to stopping a 1 in a dive stop, you simply do it with more authority than is needed 1.5! "you will stop now and I mean it!" Quote
