The Kite Shoppe Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 John, can't we talk about it here? By the way.....Welcome Home!!! Great job on the coverage! Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow! The Kite Shoppe made a decision last year....well before any hurricanes or change in management at KTAI, to not attend the 2006 convention. Several factors and evaluation led us to that decision. Mr. Gomberg, as well as others on the BOD, have asked us why and what can they do to re-evaluate the trade show. We have complete faith in David, gave him our proxy, hoping that they come up with a plan that focuses more on kiting. However, we are a minority, as to what we retail.....which is serious kites. So maybe our concerns don't matter. One can only hope for the best. Time will tell. Theresa Quote
kite-head Posted January 12, 2006 Report Posted January 12, 2006 Yes, I agree with Theresa, I personnally would rather discuss it here with other's that are optomistic. I can do without all the pessimism (or is is pissanmoanamism ) Before I say anything else however, I would like to say welcome home John, glad you made it back safely. I would also like to give you props for your efforts. I really enjoyed looking over the daily reviews. Keep up the GREAT work. And props to Rob for all of the assistence he was able to offer. I really enjoyed the video. Now, onward and upward... I realize that the KTAI trade show is a manufacturer to retailer event. It's not designed with the flyers in mind, from what I gather. I am happy to accept this fact, and quite frankly am glad that an event like this occurs. Many professional money makeing trades have shows such as this...thats why they are called trady shows. Manufacturers and retailers need this opportunity to form relationships with one another so that industry issues can be hashed out. It offers a great means of communication at the business end of the hobby I am finding myself becoming more and more engrosed in. To listen to some people out there, it would seem that they expect a show such as this to solve all the issuse envolved in bringing kiting in general (not just sport kiting) into the mainstream. That just simply isn't going to happen. But, what will bring it into the mainstream is exposure, and those same people need to take a step back and do their part in supporting what they love by exposing others to it, and involve themselves in local clubs that can aid in that exposure. I, for one, have been patiently waiting to get through the Holiday season and all the financial strain it brings so that I can join the AKA and my local club KCKC, which BTW I am going to do this weekend! I am really looking forward to playing an active roll in the kiting community and hope to do my part in spreading my addiction to all the non-kiters out there. Let the Movement Begin...Again...Kiting's second coming is close at hand, and I want to be a part of it!!! Chris Quote
