lagrenge
Hi.. I have been watching Acrobatic Kites at the valencia beach and got intrested in learning to fly them... I have talked to the pros there (from the stack club) and they told me to buy one and they would help me learn to fly it. My problem is what to buy... I have been told that I should go with the REV EXP that is easy to learn and fun to fly (actually I loved the demo I saw) but by the other hand all I see the "amatures" fly is the R-Sky Hoby (or similar). What do you advaice???? (I have no expirience with kites) Thank you Lagrenge
Dorsal
The Rev EXP (and all Revolution kites) is a four-line kite that is flown with (usually metal) handles. The top line to the kite is attached to the top of the handle, the bottom line is attached to the bottom of the handle, and a person has one handle in each hand. The R-Sky Hoby and other kites of similar design are two-line kites. The line from the left of the kite is attached to a strap held in the flyer's left hand, and the line from the right of the kite is attached to a strap in the flyer's right hand. So, which do you want to learn, two-line (called Dual-line) or four-line (called Quad-line) flying? WARNING - Many people here will tell you "This is best" or "That is best", and list a lot of reasons they think such a thing is true. What is "Best" is whatever gives you the greatest pleasure. So, which kind of kite did you enjoy watching the most? If you really aren't sure, I would suggest you start off with a Quad-line kite. But I would suggest the NTK Spirit Quad, as I think it is the most forgiving of all four-line kites and the kite least affected by wind gusts, therefore the best to learn with. I would suggest you learn to fly a Quad first, because learning to fly a dual-line kite will teach you many "bad" habits you will need to un-learn before you can fly a quad correctly, but learning to fly quads will not teach you anything you will need to un-learn to fly a dual-line kite properly. Hope that helps.
John Barresi
For quad, I recommend the 1.5 Revolution with an EXP leading edge... If you're flying around obstructions that you might hit, the regular edge (SLE) would be better... But the SLE is so stiff, I don't like it (as an experienced flier)... See the other threads in the "Quad Heads" section of this forum. EXP is a little cheaper, but if you stay with quad line flying... The 1.5 will go much farther for you. EXP is slightly lower mfg quality, handles have a crappy foam grip... For a $50 difference (tops), the 1.5 is a way better value. Also, read the Quad Heads postings about mylar versus ripstop sails. Sorry, quick and dirty post... Writing from France at the moment.
Jim Mol
Also, read the Quad Heads postings about mylar versus ripstop sails. Could you point me in the right direction? I put different words in the search engine and nothing came up. Thanks Jim
John Barresi
Ah, found it on the Rev forum... http://www.revkites.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16 However, it should be noted that most of the iQuad team is using mylar in their kites. ant man
iagrenge a rev 1.5 is the best starter kite as well as a kite you can use for when you get better for precice flying as for a dual line the new tech addiction is a good kit as well
