  1. For those of you that don't know, Kitelife is host to the largest collections of sport kite competition and demonstration footage available online... As of 6/26/09 we host over 425 video files of Masters class routines and demonstrations from individuals, pairs and teams. Demo/Comp - http://kitelife.com/forum/index.php?app=downloads&showcat=1 Tutorials - http://kitelife.com/forum/index.php?app=downloads&showcat=105
  2. With such a rich and deep tapestry of our history hidden away in personal collections for so long, we here at Kitelife felt it to be of the utmost importance to make the pages of SKQ available yet again in nearly original format... With the SKQ publisher's consent, we are doing just that. Began by Cris Batdorff, SKQ published it's first issue in the Summer of 1988... Included were articles from places like Hawaii, New Jersey, Texas, San Francisco and Chicago, as well as specific tip sections from renowned kite fliers and innovators from such greats as Lee Sedgwick (above). Each issue took our editor between four and eight hours to convert to searchable PDF format, and are being released every other month (if not sooner) starting January 1st, 2004. After a great deal of consideration, we also decided to include all advertisments as well to illustrate the history and evolution of sport kiting with full accuracy. The SKQ archives are absolutely free to view, are somewhat large at 12MB each or so, and should be available on CD as an entire collection by year's end. Check out what we have so far: http://kitelife.com/forum/index.php?autoco...amp;showcat=113
  3. We'd like to hear your opinions and input on issue 34 of Kitelife... Praise or critique, we have broad shoulders and want to grow for the better. What did you like, what didn't you like? Please share, and tell us about it!
  4. For those of you who are Kitelife Subscribers, make sure to check out the video collage we created from our trip to this year's Uttarayan Festival in Ahmedabad, Inda... Over five minutes of great footage and a rich music track. http://www.kitelife.com/members/ We learned a lot on this last international trip and hope to do much better in Malaysia, but we're satisfied with the first try at such a video... Considering the vidcam battery only gave me 20 minutes or so on the main day of the festival!
  5. Reminder gang, the old forum will be deleted on February 7th... If there are any posts that you think would be useful to save, please make sure to re-post them here before the 7th, otherwise they'll be gone for good. http://www.kitelife.com/portal
  6. These guys are very impressive... We just created a whole line of logo wear and accessories, with high quality print and images. Kitelife Store
  7. After receiving a request for an article on how to make and tune an active (turbo) bridle, I did some research and found Andy Wardley (inventor) already has the information available on the web! http://www.andywardley.com/~abw/kites/active/index.html
  8. The next featured prize in our Kitelife Subscriber's area is valued at over $300, and will be a complete ready-to-use kit with handles, lines, kite and board... Over the foot slip-in/out straps included, not pictured. Ground Industries' Flight Deck Off-Street Complete Mountain Board (click photo for info): Here is Windzup's blurb on the Little Devil power foil: The Little Devils are Ozone's all-round traction kite. Designed for all types of traction fun from buggying to snowboarding, skiing to mountain boarding, skate-boarding, roller blading, kite surfing, even riding your granny's wheelchair. Whatever your traction passion, 'Little Devils' produce solid, sturdy, user-friendly power. Constructed using the latest technological innovations from the world of paraglider design the 'Little Devil' series delivers easy handling, brilliant resistance to luffing and enough performance to put most competition kites to shame. The profile is thicker than a lot of conventional kites to provide extra stability in gusty winds or in the hands of the inexperienced. Combined with a hi-tech planform and a low drag line plan the 'Little Devils' are trimmed and tuned to balance performance, stability with handling that is ideal for all types of traction kiting. All Ozone kites are built to the same standards as our rigorously tested and certified paragliders. This consistent and millimetre accurate construction creates kites that are incredibly tough and keep their shape and factory trim even after prolonged use. This special blend of parafoil characteristics help make the 'Little Devils' stand out from the crowd. Little Devils come ready to fly with 4 lines, handles, manual and bag. Flyable with 2 or 4 line control. Quick and easy to change between 2 line and 4 line control. Are we excited or what? For those of you that don't know, someone is going to win this fabulous package on February 7th as thanks for being a official subscriber... And for helping us maintain our ever-broadening selection of kite media. You can sign up from the home page.
  9. 9:53am... My "Unread Posts" have just reset from yesterday, while I was updating my Avatar... I didn't mark anything read, but had read all the posts listed. I am checking with Invision support to verify and pre-empt any problems that could arise, same with the Avatar upload... I know it gives some trouble except when using a referring URL, until it is remedied please feel free to email me with your avatars and I'll add them manually.
  10. We're officially looking for someone who is familiar with PHP and mySQL... Tasks would include general maintenence on the forum, and assistance with a creative project on Satori Kites. It's not a full time job, not even a part time job... Perhaps a weekly or bi-weekly look over, just to keep the dust out. If you fit the bill and feel what we're doing here, please email me directly so we can discuss ideas. John Barresi Publisher/Editor Kitelife Magazine
  11. Well, matter of fact... After 10 posts you become a "member". However, becoming a subscriber does boost what we do here at Kitelife... We take a lot of pride in the way we grow and evolve with our content, thus our chosen logo.
  12. I know you can click on "Mark as Read" from your new posts view, as well as within each topic or posting, that resets it for me... At this point I 'd like to think that "Unread" will age off within 12/24 hours, but we'll see. Please continue to share your experiences with the new forum.
  13. Well, just to stir the pot... I've noted there are some events (even worldwide) that have a distinctly kite feel to them, and others that have a glossier, less earthy. While not commenting on that site in particular, I've observed pop ups to be an easy short cut and an obvious sign you're not spending time tilling the soil, so to speak. Anyways... You'll never see pop ups on Kitelife unless it's an article, pic, pdf, etc. Gaw... Back to it now... I tell you, the work never ends... LOL
  14. Hey, a lot of work... But as close as I could practically get to a clean transition. I went out of my way to ensure each person was re-registered in the proper order/seniority and that Kitelife Subscribers were acknowledged as always. I have a few items on the prize shelf for the next few months... Authentic Indian Fighters w/ traditional Manja and cotton line both included! 2003 AKA Grand Nationals DVD (review in issue 34) Sedgwick Series Revolution I w/handles With us announcing the foil and board winner around the 7th, I imagine we'll announce the next one of these prizes within the week following. In addition to the exciting coverage from Ahmedabad India which will be in issue 34, I will also be attending an international kite festival in Johor Malaysia, not far from Singapore... This next trip has me out of town 2/16 and returning 2/25. I'll be sure to take tons of pics and some more video. Info - http://www.pgkitefest.com/
  15. Greetings, Welcome to the new, upgraded KL Forum... You will find it to be 100% stable and funtioning properly now. There are a few features (not many) that have not been carried over, but we think you'll find this to be an improvement overall as no one was able to sign up or view the old forum at times. The old forum will be up for original members to browse through the first couple weeks in February, then we'll be deleting it from the server to conserve space... We debated for a long time on whether or not to make the move, as there was no way for us to move the old postings with it. Your can find the old forum here, but some people may not be able to get in: http://www.kitelife.com/portal Please take the time to update your Profile Info, which can be found by clicking My Controls in the upper left corner of your forum window... Your real name is only visible to forum admin, so rest easy. Tell your friends... We're back up and running!
