Kirk Dulaney - Subscriber #27 Our heart-felt congratulations to these gentleman... As well as my sincere and personal thanks to them (all of you too), for making Kitelife one of the finest kiting resources on the web... We couldn't do it without you! Really, truly, thank you! -
I am willing to review any such submissions.

After trying to upload myself, I found there is actually some problem on this end, I will look into it ASAP.
-
The photo kudos for Kite Party go to John Chilese of the Bay Area... He does shoot some great stuff.

Good stuff Jason! Even being a Rev buff myself, I found that list to very cool. We could almost write an article on the Rev alone huh? LOL...

There are two forum areas for this: Kite Swap/Trade http://kitelife.com/forum/index.php?showforum=31 or... Kites for Sale http://kitelife.com/forum/index.php?showforum=32 I currently have nothing set up for auctions. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Cody, first thing you do is start posting the forum message you want to include a picture in... Once you have that message prepared, before you press the "Add Reply" button to make it public, instead click "Browse...", locate the file you want, and then hit "Add Reply". I was indeed in Jacksonville 1990... Land of fire ants. That was my first year in sport kite competition (Experienced Class).

The link to our member's area is in three places... 1. Upper right corner of this page you're viewing now, last in the big group of links. 2. Big "Current Subscribers" banner on the home page. 3. The email you received confirming activation of your KL subscription. And right here: - http://www.kitelife.com/members Lastly, if you lose your user name and password you can now retrieve that information through our mailing list: - http://kitelife.com/list/index.php?p=preferences&uid These are just conveniences however, and you should always feel most welcome to contact me directly for personal assistance when so desired.

Thanks Kram... The videos are a favorite of mine as well. It's hard to come up with fresh tapes... I know people have them out there, but getting them converted to digital format is inconvenient for most people, or even making a copy of said tapes for me to do it myself. Motivation is a big issue too. If any of you have some of the VHS tapes put out by Mackinaw Kite Co. for the Great Lakes Sport Kite Championships, I have permission from Steve Negan (owner) to republish to the web... I can assure safe return of the tapes within 2-3 weeks, as I have a video encoder (hardware) here in my office. All personal tapes are acceptable, as long you (the submitter) shot them and have rights to the film. Any commercial tapes will also be considered, but I would have to negotiate with the producer any of tape... Often it's events that no longer sell tapes that love the extra free promotion and won't lose sales (like Great Lakes). Overdrive is sweet... I'll put up more good footage of them as soon as some hits my desk. For those of you that don't know... There are also exclusive videos in our KL Subscribers area, which are not available anywhere else. They are general festival videos 5-8 minutes long, some with soundtracks... Currently there is one from Ahmedabad, and one from Malaysia, also exclusive photo galleries. We'll be adding more as we attend more and more festivals. If anyone else is interested - http://www.kitelife.com/subscribe Current KL Subscriber comments on the videos are welcome here in the forum, and please be frank... We can only try to improve. Tell your friends, and as KL grows so will our ability to amaze you with our content... Plus, if they fill in the referral page after signing up as a Kitelife Subscriber you will receive one bonus entry into our current prize drawing. Remember, I pretty much solidified my own Kitelife concept in August of last year when I took over ownership and could commit sweat and tears... So, it's been flurry of development! Also, I could not stress enough how sincerely open I am to any and all comment... Positive or negative, I try to live by the "truth in all things" theory... I will always consciously consider all ideas, criticisms and comments. In fact, it is the fuel for what I do... You guys help stoke the fires.

Try not to step on toes

Advertising rates are at the link below... For example, Into the Wind has "Platinum" advertising with full exposure throughout the site... One World Kites has the "Silver" package with ads only on the main page of each issue and the links page. http://www.kitelife.com/promotion/promote2web.htm Web hosting is a different story, with it's own rates: http://www.kitelife.com/hosting I love questions, so don't hesitate to ask any! -
If you click the "Browse..." button by File Attachments on the post message page, it will bring up something like old windows explorer... Just choose the drive (A:?), locate and click on the file you want to post, then click the "Open" button. Now you should see the file path (A:/blah/blah) just to the left of "Browse..." Make sure your message is ready as well, then hit "Add Reply". Let us know if you have any more difficulties.

Try not to step on toes
John Barresi replied to codykiteguy's topic in The Web Site (nuts and bolts)
Mike Gillard was the owner/editor of Kitelife until January of 2003 when I took over as editor, then in August of 2003 I became the owner. Shortly before that, he became the editor for AKA's Kiting Magazine. Gillard and I were on Captain Eddie's Flying Circus sport kite team together in 1996 and 1997, we went all the way to the national championship and World Cup. KiteLines is non-existant as a magazine... And I've heard of a lot of people not even getting replies through the KiteLine Book Store... So, who knows? -

John Barresi replied to codykiteguy's topic in The Web Site (nuts and bolts)
Well, as I understand it PayPal will draw the money from your credit card... The actual fees they'd charge me for running credit cards directly was not cost effective, and I've had nothing but good luck with PayPal... Either the customer or myself can also cancel subscriptions at any time through the PayPal site. As I think you know, PayPal does not charge anything for using it to buy things... Only if you are receiving payments via them. Let me know if you have any other questions! -
Try not to step on toes
John Barresi replied to codykiteguy's topic in The Web Site (nuts and bolts)
As I understand it, the only printed magazine left in the USA is "Kiting" from the AKA. I hadn't heard anything about Prentice dying, or Prentice anything for that matter... He stepped out of the kiting scene sometime in 1997 or 1998, at least that's when AKM went down for the count. When SKQ stopped in 1993, I seem to recall KiteLines being the ones who picked up their old subscribers... Helping the SKQ owners out of a pinch. Of course there are dozens of power kiting magazine both on line and off, but the mags as we know them seem to be all but gone. I know Gillard plans on keeping Kiting Magazine around though, as do I with Kitelife. -
Thanks for the cheers Ron, we're hustling to get issue 35 on line for April 1st... Barring unforeseen circumstance, we should be on time. I'll also do my very best to get two more issues of SKQ on line within a week or two afterwards.
-
Thanks for the update Mike... I was still curious about that. For those of you who just picked up this topic, you can see the 2003 Berkeley report and many great photos in issue 31 of Kitelife: http://www.kitelife.com/archives/issue31/b...ley03/index.htm

My associate Moon Kushner is currently at at the Fort Worden retreat... We'll be sure to include a report and pics in the next issue of KL as well.
-
It's easier than you might think to have a page added... On the new links page there you can find "Add A Site", just click that and the rest is self-explanatory. I also encourage you all to post your own site reviews whenever you feel like it... Next to each link on the new page, there is an option to post or view reviews.
-
Sorry, no news about Caribbean Kite Co... I had no idea their site was down, the URL has since been removed. Good to hear the new link page is working so well... I'll give it another week or so, then barring any yet to be discovered issues, I'll link it up as the main in conjunction with the release of issue 35 on the 1st.
-
My trip was from February 16th through the 25th... I took 799 photos, plus video. There will be a full report in issue 35 of KL, due out on April 1st. Any and all article submissions or event reports are welcome and due in to us by March 25th, anything submitted after that deadline will be considered for the following issue.

I always prefer extended handles with the Rev I and 1.5, and regular "Rev I" handles with the Rev II.
