Dean750 Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 I haven't really been flying my Rev alot until lately. Mostly lighter than 7mph with 150# 100' lines and the stock 7 wrap rods. So it fly's real light. Fine by me for the most part most of the time. But I was real smart and put it up in 20+ today. Didn't matter how much brake I gave or took away, it was a truck. A drag truck that is. won't be that tarded again. Amazing what a refresher fly can remind you of. Whoops, ohhhhh s#*@, woo hoo, uh oh, LOOK OUT!!!, that was cool, damn this pulls a little I really don't think they had 20+mph in mind when they built these early Rev 1's. Dean Quote
John Barresi Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 Dean, much love to ya, but Rev doesn't make a 7 wrap. Stock 1995 Rev would have 4 wrap (marked "Revolution Equipped" - confirm?). There are a VERY FEW sets of 6 wrap running around, but mostly with big stacks (on the lead kite). But ya, a standard Rev I would be a bit over-matched in 20mph+. The vented with a 4 wrap frame, much better... A B-Series vented in 20+, even better than that. Quote
Dean750 Posted June 28, 2008 Author Report Posted June 28, 2008 Yes it does say Revolution Equipped on the rod. And I apologize. When I bought the kite I was told it was a 7 wrap Rino rod. Even in 20+ (with the bridel on) theres not much flex on the leading edge. And having hit more than one drift log at speed, I haven't broke a rod yet. My bad. I've only flown one time on 90# line and it was only 50' or so. and that was in 7mph or less and it was real light. Top hand needed to be pulled in about a foot or so for even horizontal flight. I just assumed that what I was told was what it was. And thought that with the lighter, shorter lines flying the way it was proved it has HEAVY rods. Hey, what can I say, I thought I knew what I was yakin about. But I love you too John Thanks for setting me strait. So will it fly better on 80' lines better than it did on 50 footers? Dumb question I know. Dean Quote
John Barresi Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 My guess is that tuning, and making sure you have the right frame for the right wind will do more than anything else. Any chance of some photos? I'd like to see the end of the leading edge spar and it's label, as well as the kite itself. You've got my curiosity up. Sounds like whoever said "Rhino" rod was spinning a yarn, would love to hear who it was, maybe via PM. Quote
Dean750 Posted June 28, 2008 Author Report Posted June 28, 2008 My bad on the 7 wrap thing. I was wrong. It is the stiffest rod I've ever seen though. Holding the ends of the rod I can't really flex it it's so stiff. Or maybe I'm just a whoos. In thinking about it, not only is there not much flex on the rod in flight, but there wasn't much flex when I used to fly mine and my fathers stacked in 15 to 20 mph wind. Or I could just be tarded on the whole thing I've owned the kite for a long time, and flown it maybe 15 times. If that. Dean Quote
windofchange Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 I've got 8 wrap SLE's in my custom stack. Quote
Choccy Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 Whoops, ohhhhh s#*@, woo hoo, uh oh, LOOK OUT!!!, that was cool, damn this pulls a little welcome to my world (but on 1.5 vented!) flying with more brake on these days but the wind can still drag me around sometimes featherweight, Quote

Meaning I start letting the brakes out to get more leading edge forward. I know it's wrong, but it adds lift in low wind and dumps the wind out the back in high wind. Either way I still seem to have enough brake. I'm goofy I know but so far it works. Guess I have to work with more brake to see what it does. Tried it yesterday in 20+ and it seemed to increase pull and decrease my ability do dump wind. Maybe I had too much brake? The lower tips of my handles were up over the top lines at times to get the kite to go forward. I'll have to get pics of my handle tuning. Dean Quote
