I got this thing I do when I go kiting. I always carry along a bunch of Gayla Deltas to give away to little kids. These kites really fly great, for kids, and in almost no wind too. Watching little kids fly them, some with there first kite, is really funny!! ;)

I usually bought them on EBay at about 2 bucks each, but the supply started to dry up recently and the price jumped up to 4 bucks each. But, I found them again at “Into The Wind” http://www.intothewind.com/index.html at a more reasonable “quantity of 12” price of $3.25 each. I know a lot of people can’t afford doing this, but if you can…try it once and you might find it as much fun as I do and well worth the money!

And I figured there is no harm in a little advertising too, with the kite gift, so I print out and tape in place a label on each one saying:

Compliments

(I figured the way I worded the label, I wouldn’t have to ask for permission! heehee!) :)

I too carry some give away kites. They cost me a bit more than yours though Duane. Maybe I ought to have a look round to see if there is anything cheaper this side of the pond.

Important thing is, they HAVE to fly. No good giving kitest to kids if they do not fly real easy.

Look at how many fests you go to and see the kids with a cheap little kite that is just a swine to fly. I think fests almost put as many folks off as get them into the sport sometimes?

Hey Bear,

Have you ever thought about sewing up some small sleds with scrap nylon? I've got a small (one square foot) pocket kite that I let the little kids fly. My daughter gave it to me, so I can't give it away.

It'd only take a few minutes to sew some up ... wouldn't take up much room ... very low cost ... no one will get hurt by a sled. Or get wufer to do the honors ... he's got to have lots of scrap.

Cheers,

Tom

The AKA President Barbara Meyer had a good idea that I'll have to check out:

"Eventually spring will be here and small plastic kites back in the discount stores. Wise kiters and clubs watch for them to go on clearance in May and make an offer to take all the stock for a extra good price. Often the store manager will make a deal just to get rid of them."

Ofcourse, the end of kite season will differ with different locations, but I think that's a good idea I'll have to look into!
