What a day...Poor Elvira!!!

I usually go flying at a local park about 4 miles from my home:

http://www.indiantrail.com/index.asp?Type=B_BASIC&SEC=%7BE3C5DC2F-72EC-429F-A740-54CD632B991B%7D&DE=%7BD21C752A-151D-4B44-A459-42B45B4EC5DE%7D

But, I decided to drive an extra 10 miles to the county park, as sort of a treat to Elvira to make up for stabbing her last week with my kite stake. http://www.pbcgov.com/parks/locations/countypines.htm

======

If anyone is in this area, feel free to contact me and I'll be there---wherever there is!)

======

Things are great at the park. The temp. is in the mid 60s and there's a north wind 10 to 15 mph. and the sky is perfectly clear. I park the truck and wave to the worker trimming the grass, he waves back. And I unwind the line set and set up Elvira. (This will be my "making up" to her for all I've put her through lately.)

I start walking back to my kite stake and I feel rain. I got confused, because there wasn't a cloud in the sky, and then I realized they had turned the sprinklers on!! I didn't even know the field had sprinklers in it!! I raised my hand and yelled across the field at the guy working there and he motioned that he had nothing to do with it and then pointed across the park. There is a control and garage area on the other side of the park, but you can't see the building from the field...and visa-versa. I turned around and looked at Elvira and I had placed her right in front of one of those pop-up sprinklers and she was getting hit full blast!! The worker got on his cell-phone and a minute later the sprinklers went off.....but, Elvira was soaked!!!

You should have heard her screaming, "INSULT TO INJURY!!"..."INSULT TO INJURY!!" And I don't know where she picked up all the other things that she was saying, but I sure named her right "Mistress of the Dark"!! I couldn't shut her up, so I just hung her up in a tree to dry out on the other side of the field and took out "Serenity" (one of my dual liners) to fly. But, every time I had to do "the walk of shame" I could hear her cackling from all the way on the other side of the field, and I normally can't hear much of anything!!!! (I think she can get inside my mind somehow!! heehee!!)

On the way home I talked to her and explained to her that today was just the necessary training required for flying in water and I told her all about how great it will be. With that, she started to settle down a bit and now she's really looking forward to playing in the water!! (I wasn't planning of flying in water, but I guess I have no choice now.)

I'll tell you how that goes!!

Keep It Up!

LOL! Once they taste water... :blink:

I'd still love to see "new flying spots" put in here...

http://kitelife.com/...te-kite-fields/

I think it serves as a clearer archive of flying fields, especially when putting the city/state in the title. :big_blowup:

John,

Why don't you combine the two topics, "Favorite Kite Fields" and "Where did you fly today & what were you flying?", into one topic, and call it, "Where is your favorite flying spot, today?" confused_1.gif

I posted the locations that I normally fly at "under" the heading of (RoyalPalmBeach&Loxahatchee, FL.), but I had no idea that there was such a place to post such things...(although I thought it was a great idea)...the only way I found out where my post went was to look for something that said, "TODAY" in the forum...heehee!! Then I found out where that stuff was.

I don't know about Reef Runners idea as being good or bad, but I think it should be brought out in the open so dummies like myself can see it. heehee!

"NOW"...That will be a place that I will check before heading out on any trips!

Thanks,

Keep It Up!

Makes no difference to me! I just thought that condensing things, might help us to get all these flying spots, posted in one place, rather than scattered all over the forum, under different headings and different topics, etc.........simplify !! confused_1.gif

IMHO, it seems that too many times, many of us come up with a great ideas :big_blowup: , but rather than searching to see if there is already a discussion underway, concerning our thought, instead, we just start a completely new topic, leaving the rest of us, in somewhat of a confused state, as we try to follow the same topic, in several different places.........When this happens, I usually just abandon the topic all together, because it's just too difficult to try and keep up with 2 or 3, simultaneous discussions. It's kinda like this AKA discussion, going on right now. I don't know where to look, or to post, so I'm just avoiding commenting, because I don't know where to post. confused_1.gif

At the upper right of the main forum page is a link that says "View New Content". Click on that to see everything posted since your last visit. Then click on the little orange icon just to the left of the topic name to be taken to the first unread post.

On AKA you can either click on the bright dots in the Forum Index, or click on SEARCH and then SHOW UNREAD POSTS. (There are generally several pages, but not all have new posts. It is a bug in the system they use.)

Hey Pete, Yeah, I understand all of that. It's just that I don't think (IMHO), that we need to start a completely new topic, every time that we go from the front yard, to the back yard, to fly. Just kidding and being a little facetious here, but what I'm saying is that why can't all the topics, about new flying places be combined under one topic ?

Take care..........nick

I agree on getting them all in one place. I was responding to the question about whether there was a current "discussion" going on and how to find it. I'm a great believer in hierarchical organization. I would probably set up a state-by-state framework and consolidate the flying locations by region within each state. (But then, I'm compulsive about things like that. All my photos are in folders and sub-folders of the 2009/2009-02/2009-02-21 variety. I have hierarchies like that under each subject for my photographs. Easy to determine when I took a photo, but hell to find a particular one if I don't know when it was taken.)

Gotcha, understand that, and finding a discussion. I suppose getting it members to do that, is really the problem...........

As for the photos, all of my photos, are likewise in folders and sub-folders and sub-sub folders, but by subject only, rather than date ranges. If I can only remember what subject I'm looking for, I can usually find a photo, and they are basically sorted by date (or image#) within the sub-folder, if I haven't renamed the individual photos, for some reason...........I suppose everyone has there own system. :wacko:
