Jo Davies Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 I have really enjoyed flying my EXP for a few months, but am now thinking of the next thing..... I am considering the SUL as winds can be light here in the summer, but am still at the stage of crashing my kite... Is it forgiving? Do you have to be experienced? - should I wait for the winter...... (sob) Just how easy is it to fly in calmish weather? Is the 1 or 1.5 MUCH better than the EXP? Quote
John Barresi Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 Hi! The SUL has a 2 wrap frame (compared to 3 wrap in the EXP), making it quite a bit more fragile... I would say that the 2 wraps are not forgiving. However, the SUL will fly down to about 3 mph with ease... The EXP goes down to about 5-6 mph with ease... Would certainly be motivation to gain more control. Quote
Jo Davies Posted June 15, 2006 Author Report Posted June 15, 2006 I am happy to learn on the EXP, but I cant launch it at low wind speeds. Leads to much running and proping kite back up before I pack away.... Any tips? Quote
John Barresi Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 Check this out... http://www.kitelife.com/archives/issue40/l...ind40/index.htm Quote
Penny Lingenfelter Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 You might consider shorter lines with your EXP in light -o winds. Knowing how to fly a Rev. outdoors is little help to beginners in no wind. You have to relearn a few things. The exp in no wind is like flying a regular 1.5 indoor, harder, but doable. In light wind it's easier. Line lenght depends on you. 10ft, 25 ft. 50 ft. They are all different. The Indoor Rev. at 0-2 mph is still a completely different kite and those 2 wraps can be fragile on SUL. You might want to find your brakes before you move to one of those. Still crashing? Ouch.. Beach barking can be avoided by pushing down on both thumbs (using your wrist) and holding it. To much push will put the kite in reverse. to little and the kite won't stop. If you release then your back to a crash. No wind flying is challanging, but it makes a better flyer out of you and you don't have to wait for wind! Enjoy! Bb Penny Quote
Jo Davies Posted June 17, 2006 Author Report Posted June 17, 2006 Many thanks for the info on light winding flying. A great article. Took my EXP out yesterday and had much mre success. (no crashes!!) Still falls out of the sky, but am able to fly it again by doing more on its side. Still want the SUL though..... Quote
John Barresi Posted June 17, 2006 Report Posted June 17, 2006 Great job Jo! Keep it up... It will get easier. Especially with an SUL. Quote
