Andyschism Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 Recently I was flying my Premier Addiction, and totally crashed it. Saw the fabric kind of flailing and realized I had finally broken my first kite. Shrugged it off assessed the damage and realized that I did not just break the spine, I shattered it. Trying to find out how can I replace this part, and where I can get one. Size of the kite is : 72 x 28 in. 109 x 43 cm. Any other information I can provide, just ask for it. Thankyou. Quote
Dorsal Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 Andy - Wrap a piece of string around some intact portion of the rod and make an ink mark on 2 or 3 adjacent wraps. From mark to mark will be the circumference of the rod. Then unwrap the string and carefully measure the distance between those marks, or measure the distance from the first mark to the third one and divide that number in half. In either case, post what the distance is, within 1/64" or better, please. Now, we'll divide the circumference by pi (3.1416) and that will give us the diameter of the rod. Premier says the kite has solid carbon rods, so it should now be easy to find a replacement, either from KiteStudio or GoneWithTheWind or wherever you bought the kite. Quote
Andyschism Posted July 10, 2006 Author Report Posted July 10, 2006 Ok I will do that, is there a better type of rod that I can replace the spine with besides carbon? I'm not to worried about money (god that sounds horrible) but a replacement shouldnt be very much. Thankyou. Quote
RobB Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 Hey Andy... I have to repair my kites ALL the time ! I'll me up front about it, stunt kites are fragile and break ALL the time, especially if you are trying to learn new tricks. And don't fall for the 'groud recovery' techniques... instant break-o. I ordered an assortment of replacement parts from Goodwinds kites. Your instruction manual probably describes the sizes of the different rods & spars, or check on the manufacturers' web site. Or, you could measure as a last resort... Being that you broke the spine, changing it to fiberglass probably won't upset the balance of the kite, but it won't be as light and responsive. I would say just buy enough original stock to make a couple repairs, that way you're ready next time. Try this link, they're a life saver... http://www.goodwindskites.com/ Good luck ! ~Rob. Quote
