Learning from flying in unfamiliar or non-ideal situations

    By Exult

When being removed from your comfort flying zone you might get new experiences that you couldn't imagine or predict. This blog entry is also a vacation post card from the medieval city (in the sense that ruins and buildings from that time still exist) of Visby ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visby ) in the island of Gotland ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gotland ) in the Baltic Sea as well as an example of how flying during new and non-ideal conditions turned out to be educational, fun and very

    Support your LKS

Support your LKS   I started reading the kite forums with some intensity over four years ago.  I had used computers for many years even back before the days of the WWW.  It has been quite awhile since I’ve seen that initialism used in any context.  I had previously been on a few forums of interest but I was really fired up wanting to learn anything kites.   I saw mention of an initialism LKS, Local Kite Store.  Out here in the mountains of western Virginia there was no such thing.  Maybe

And The Wind Blows Again

Just like the Carolina Kite Festival this past weekend, the winds were high for the weekly community kite fly.  But I did get to fly my new Peter Lynn Kite Show during the week. And The Wind Blows Again

The 31st Carolina Kite Festival

This past weekend was the 31st Carolina Kite Festival at the Sands Villa Resort in Atlantic Beach, NC.  We had no idea how this one would be attended as Hurricane Florence hit us hard and many people are out of work and out of their homes.  Also, many of the hotels and condo units were damaged which made accommodations in the area harder to find.  But it didn't deter most of our regular out-of-town flyers. A Day at the Park (Djinn and Phoenix find the sky)

Anxious to try my new Djinn, I contacted @Khal to see if we could meet and fly today. Yesterday at Atlantic Beach was nice but the winds were far too high to consider a full sail. Today our normal flying location wa a bit gusty and more the mid-vent range but very flyable. We met and started flying not only my new Djinn but the Phoenix Mid-Vent as well as my Trick or Treat kite. All in all it was a nice day to fly with variable and a bit gusty winds at times. A few of Khal's kites also expe

Mysuru Dusshera kite festival 2018 | FLY360.co.in

Dussehra is the festival celebrated to rejoice the victory of good over evil. Legend has it that the Prince of Ayodhya Lord Rama killed the King of Lanka Ravana on this eve several centuries ago. The festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Mysore where the festival becomes a ten-day long celebration, in comparison to the other parts of the country where it is celebrated only for a single day. The celebrations begin on the first day of the Navratri and continue on until the day of Vijayda

Missing A Good Day

Fort Macon State Park is open.  Although the fort itself is closed because of damage from Hurricane Florence.  The early report concerning the weekly community kite fly was encouraging but we couldn't verify the information because we weren't there. Missing A Good Day

After The Storm

After spending the week cleaning and removing debris, I was looking forward to a community kite fly as a means to get away from it all.  Unfortunately, Fort Macon State Park is closed.  For how long, we have no idea.  They are doing damage assessment and repair and have to see how much beach remains after the storm. All I Wanted To Do Was Fly

The community kite fly day has come and gone.  An unwanted guest showed up and caused a cancellation.  The guest's name -- FLORENCE.  Hurricane Florence brought two days  of high winds and three days of rain.  And evacuations and curfews which kept us from the beach.  All I Wanted To Do Was Fly

I Hadn't Realized

Things in life distracted me and I hadn't realized that it has been two years since I wrote anything.  To those who were following me, I sincerely apologize.  The good news is we haven't stopped flying our kites.  I Hadn't Realized

Gray III

Completed Gray III today and gave it a quick bridle check.. Due to the gustiness outside, I used very short lines and flew in the swirl of the building.
