I don't know how much they were charging back in 2013 and beyond but $200 seems a bit steep for a 5-slot bag, no? As my collection has started to grow I've been contemplating a multi-kite bag and while I want to drink the kool-aid and get the 'proper' bag the price does seem a bit much. I've seen some of the older ones that are stitched well but can anyone vouch for their newer bags?

I'm definitely looking to have this done on my new Rev B. Is there a general idea of turnaround time for this service in the coming weeks? I'd like to send it in sooner than later but I'm not sure what your schedules are like.

Very interesting. I bought a Rev B from ITW not too long ago and of course it came with the newer GT frames in both 2- and 3-wrap varieties. The kite took a hard landing at the beginning of my session this weekend after I tried out some of the extra-long custom leaders and after close inspection I noticed two tiny longitudinal hairlines at the end of one of my 3-wrap edges where it meets the ferrule. Steve from BASKL recommended ZAP-RT rubber-toughened CA as the appropriate crack-filler/adhesive so I placed an order for that (it's not on most shelves). In the meantime I walked over to Highline Kites and asked Tom for another 3-wrap as a backup while I waited to repair the other one. It took him a while but he finally found some 3-wrap and it was NOS, ie. silver label. I was not yet aware that there were these new and old varieties. It fit on my GT center just fine and it didn't seem to feel very different but I did notice that the wrap was wider than the GT tubes. I didn't immediately notice the label and it wasn't until I got home that I looked here and sure enough here it is. Now I guess I'm going to want to get at least one more of them from Tom, if only for my mild OCD, but it sounds like maybe I should buy him out! Do we wanna crowdfund some NOS Rev tubing? He had a ton of 4-wrap which is what took him so long finding the 3-wrap. Kidding aside, I'm more than happy to give Tom my business but wow I had no idea the rabbit hole went this far!

The Rev finally came and I couldn't be happier. Too late to take it out before dinner but I'll have plenty of time to learn on it tomorrow.

Thanks, dragonfish. Indeed I hope to see you there! I wasn't able to really take advantage of the free lessons at the Kite Fest so I'm really looking forward to it. Once I saw it on the BASKL site I immediately got in touch and made sure I wouldn't be imposing as a non-BASKL member, which turns out is just fine. My girlfriend wants to come along as well so it should be a lot of fun for us both!

I suppose it should come as no surprise that members have a lot of other hobbies as well, like astronomy, music, and other sports. I joke with my girlfriend (who pokes fun but also enjoys that I have so many hobbies) that it took me this long to get back around to kiting because I've been occupied with so many other activities. Most recently I've been learning the finer points of freehand sharpening high-Rockwell Japanese kitchen knives with natural stones. She just shakes her head and tells me not to spend too much.

Hello all, Thanks for the intro, automated or not! I've only been here a few days and I've already learned so much. My kite story starts like most do: I was a kid and saw a kite. When we lived in Seattle in the late-80s/early-90s I had some friends whose parents were into stunt kiting and they let me spend some time with one of their beaters for a few months. I did get the hang of dual line controls but I couldn't afford my own so that was that because we moved soon thereafter. Fast forward many, many years and after having lived in NYC for nearly 15 years I recently relocated to the Bay Area with my SF-native girlfriend. The topic of the Berkeley Kite Festival came up and of course was irresistible. We went together and it hit me. I remembered all the fun I had all that time ago, particularly watching the team events. I almost bought a dual line right then and there but I held off and came here to do more research. I'm glad I did. I ended up going with a Rev B-series. It's coming tomorrow and will give me just enough time to do a little practicing before the free BASKL clinic on Saturday. Can't wait to explore and learn so much more here. Happy flying.
