  1. Fwiw, That looks so cheaply done even their own RX design looks better. And this one as a visual wing still doesn't even come close to what Bazzer has been putting out recently with his hand-crafted Eyes series with the "bloodshot" fx! If you're ever considering adding an Eyes to your bag, there's only one place to go for the dollar you put down. Down unda. Bazzer's work is so significant the kite feels and flies so much better than the my 1.5b, would only imagine the B-pro just as refined. I love the way the Phoenix flies I try to fly it all the time even when I know the Ash will be overpowered going beyond the recommended wind range. But it's so worth it, what a difference from my 1.5b! (Bad comparison since my 1.5b is mv and Bazzer's kite is Ash, but when flown at optimal wind speeds for each respective kite, I find the difference noticeable)
  2. Such an opportunity to reach out, they have a solid production crew already, and consistent creation with very nicely sized following. Show them how awesome kites really can get, invite them to a private Clinic session, get their crew hooked on the addiction, their big followers will find their way to these forums and then we work on conversion for sales!
  3. Feel free to read through my journey getting into revs in the other thread if you're bored, lots of tips and common questions answered by veterans here My tip, since it's about flying on the beach in soft sand, find a long, extra long stake. I learnt it the hard way when I took my Rev to the beach for the very first time. I was using a regular screwdriver as a stake, standard size/length driver from Home Depot/Target. Too short, got buried in the sand and I ended up having to bury the kite handles itself so that it was strong enough to not get tugged out by the strength of the wind on the kite end. I now use an extra-long driver
  4. A few months ago, one of the "evening kitelife group chats" I mentioned in the chat to JB the need of "Youtube Influencers" for our kiting community, to bring in the new generation of flyers and help create awareness of this amazing addiction. Just a few hours ago, Flite Test (huge channel for RC community) put up their very first kiting video!! Sure, it's showcasing a dual line parafoil (Prism Synapse, my favorites) and no quads/Revs yet... but maybe JB and iQuad could consider networking and getting a feature going with the Flite Test channel Josh and his crew, show them how it's done JB! Maybe even talk to them about KiteForge I am sooo excited to see where this continues. Like them, I found my love for this sport because I had too much wind for my RC fad back then. They've done a video now on Kites because it's too windy for them to do RC content currently. I hope more 'younguns' stream in over to the addiction! AND with Youtube Influencers, when one covers something of interest, you can bet other influencers will hop aboard and continue creating more and more coverage on the topic, ie. Kites!!! I left a comment on this 1 video I've linked here using my same username, quick Thumb up it so we get the comment pinned in the video and send people to Kitelife!
  5. Two kitelife regulars sharing airspace, so kewl. Need a 3rd wing
  6. We'll be in Yosemite, I'll put my kite up there and join in spirit 😂
  7. Was heading home over the weekend from a mini weekend getaway, when I realized we'd be going by the Berkeley Marina (Kite Festival grounds). Decided to stop by for the sunset, and felt so weird good being there. I met JB here for the first time along with a bunch if the other Rev/Kite community just some 9 months ago when I had just discovered the entirety of the sport of kites. The park now is sprawling lush green, grass almost a foot tall, a complete contrast from that day when John handed me his kite with dry dusty grounds around us and me gleeming with all the excitement . Just some months ago I was asking for so much help and this community so warmly welcomed all my questions, helped me find a starting kite. And now I have a bag of kites for myself, dual lines foils, my starter midvent, an Ash, and closer to my heart a rev2 and a loaner B2 with 80 & 120 sets. Hehehe. Am now a baby magnet (as the wife calls it) as I fly almost daily at the neighborhood park. I've taken the bag and flown everywhere I've been able to squeeze flying time in, including Singapore and Bali already. Looking forward to the new season and festival again already 😂😂 Just bought a bicycle with the wife so no chance to pick up a vented yet to complete the "wind range" collection. -Feeling so thankful and blessed- To anyone else interested in the hobby and on the fence about getting a kite and joining in, just do it. The amount of sheer fun you're gonna have will blind away everything else!
  8. I had my first water play some months ago too, all I can say is, Be prepared for the weight change. Once the kite hits the water you're gonna feel the weight of water, is completely different from air. The shock caught me off guard and I panicked, it felt like the water was quicksand and I'd be forced to take the wet walk of shame. But the "flight" dynamics still remain true, just be sure to position yourself with the correct water current direction (like wind direction) and the kite will respond like what you expect. Oh and my test play was in still water, no waves only a light current.
  9. My Synapse 170 in 10mph-ish winds, with higher gusts. I'm 5'2 115lbs I have been window shopping for the 200, I want even more pull but I don't want to be lying down fighting the wind, so the 200 has been in my shopping list for so so long. Haven't bought it yet because after knowing the 170 characteristics, might not have sufficient wind here often enough for the 200 to satisfy my personal needs for enjoyment. I switch between my Shapsnot 1.2 (equivalent to the Synapse 140?) depending on the wind, I find the Synapse 170 needs a higher minimum amount of wind to get airborne, and even more than the smaller foil to "reset" and take off again.
  10. Thanks for all the input again guys. Miss chatting with all of you! Familiar names While I've yet to fly any thing less than 80s, I've come to learn that i love the speed. So I'm okay with that. I primarily want shorter lines to fly in more places where 80s would just be inconvenient and not ideal for the location (crowded, cramp) But additionally having watched so much more kite videos now since I first discovered the hobby, I started recognizing that the most solo fun (combinations, tricks, variety) is performed while on a shorter set. The long sets show up more often in group flying. And that's what I wanna try next so looking to get a short set added to the bag. Probably end up buying a new one and cutting down the older set. Still piecing together hours of flight video footage from last year season hahahaha it's embarrassing, but I also still am excited to share it soon. Love the hobby, still all wrapped up in that "new" novelty gonna make the best of it!
  11. Want short set to fly in not-enough-space patches of grass ^^ but thanks!
  12. Anyone can link me the guide to cutting own lines? I remember coming across a fairly detailed post here somewhere but can't seem to find it now, it had pictures and accounted for measurements to include extra lengths for knot tying and sleeving and how to do everything. Thanks in advance, miss everyone winter has been dull! Is it better to purchase 120' lines, then cut down the older 120' to make a short set 30-50'? Can't determine what's the best route easiest on the wallet to get a set of shorties. Winds have been picking up here again but still uncomfortably cold for me to fly, feeling like a sad puppy looking out the window!! Love this hobby
  13. Darnit.. so which kite to break the bank for first.. Shook, Phoenix, or Djinn.. Sigh. So excited for the Djinn, following the journey!
  14. I got a chance to fly. It lasted a good 45mins or so. im satisfied. mm. the tide went low and gave enough room. How to stake the kite down during setup if I go into the water Mark?
  15. Need advice, if any.. At beautiful Bali for another two days, winds here by the beach are awesome and few people around which makes even more awesome..and it's super hot under the sun here too. Trying to take my mind off it, but I really want to do some flying (it's an addiction okay). Once I am back home it'll be another month or so before the Spring winds kick in and I'll have to bundle up to be outside. Problem is, there's only like 40feet of open space I can find/on the beach and the shortest I have on hand are 80ft lines. I'm open to anything, maybe ill find a pair of scissors and snip my lines down to length. Is there a trick knot to shorten the lines and still fly? I am a desperate newbie with an addiction. Thanks friends and blessed New Year <3
  16. Haha thanks yah, great idea im gonna take a look at the tube thingy when I can. TSA person asked me "where the kites at?" after I had told him the rods im hand carrying were for my kites. I had folded and ziplocked the sails into my check in. Regretting big time now not jumping on shorter lines. My 80ft's too long for the smaller parks/open fields here... So instead of being limited by flying space, I'm locked by my lines for now.. time to get a set of shorties! I have 80 and 120, love both wish I could do 120s all the time but I have to work harder on the 120s. So now I can't decide if I want a longer-shortie or short-shorts. 50 or 30? Both sets are priced the same from TKS. If I could I'd wallet out for both sets but the hole in the wallet is still not patched up yet. Hope all had a splendid Xmas!
  17. Hi again Kitelife! Gonna be traveling by air tonight with my quads for the first time. Was hoping my bags would be big enough for the rods... Guessed wrong shoulda checked sooner but no biggie at all. All the rods fit fine, diagonally too. But, just the ones with the ferrules.. argh. Too long with the ferrules! So gonna just handcarry a couple rods lol. Been going through somewhat a withdrawal without being to fly..first down-season cycle for me. Sucks! Miss flying. But I did manage like 30mins no more than twice, weekend winter winds gusted up a bit. Each time was basically a gianormous sigh of relief, satisfaction... Put in more time night flying too with LEDs, loving it so much seeing the lights ride up 120ft into the night sky and spin around. Parents came by asking me what it was, where to get one, one even asked "whether my 6 year old could fly that?" lol. Hope I'll be able to find some good flying traveling. Happy holidays all, new favorite community and friends!!!! P.s. Got 18 hours to deal with on the plane, thinking I could finally edit kite footage from the summer... Or sleep it out. Hahaha.
  18. Looking for pointers/technique preferences/video for mastering a "tip turn", especially horizontally. Right to left, and left to right. Not bicycle/center pivot spin. This is when the kite turns on the end cap. Imagine Ladder but horizontally. And also instead of 180 (tip up to down), doing a 360 tip turn. Mainly looking for information on the starting hand positions and what fundamentals I'm actually going to be combining to actually achieve this move. I can somewhat do the ladder vertically but horizontally sometimes I get one good tip turn and the follow up turns are a mess. And I'm not able to understand what I'm doing that made the one good tip turn. When the wind is gusting and I get a lot of speed, I can get a few tip turns too, but not consistent and perfectly on the tip, sometimes it will pivot around the verticle spar tip instead, and lastly, I can't do it slowly to show control/mastership of the tip turn. Thanks and have a wonderful Thanksgiving all! (Please let there be wind..)
  19. Dunk sail in water to dissolve microscopic salt crystals that shred the fibers inside-out. Hang dry completely. Got it. Thanks everyone appreciate it like always!! Need my darling 1.5B to last a lifetime. They be undergoing extinction.
  20. Ive only dried the kite outside overnight, seemed to do the trick. Knocked all the sand off too after it dried. Should I rinse it again? Don't have a hose either.. would have to be the shower Talk about second love right? Now I'm showering with it. O boy.
  21. Reporting back from weekend trip to the beach... In the end, I used driftwood for staking down my Rev. Driftwood/tree branches were plentiful for the pickings on the beach surprisingly... Stabbed a long firm pine deep into the sand and all was great. Winds were around 10-15mph, some pulling on the wood stake, but it held fine! Also got to do some water play for the very first time (sing it) My midvent drowned, didn't expect the weight of the water or current to be that much. And yes, the current was going the correct way hehe, I made sure of that. But when it came back out it flew so good still and looked so fun splashing and tossing water everywhere like when a puppy shakes itself off after a bath!! I saved video footage but I am so backed up now on my video log editing.. back logged from September hahaha.
  22. Yes. I'm new like you, materials are noticably different when flying. However, whichever you choose for your first, you will naturally learn on that material and you will fly it well just as any other kind of sail. It's only afterwards when you try another sail then you notice the difference and by that time with a second sail, you would already have a firm grasp of flying your quad. Which means you'll fly every sail just fine Fyi, nylon reacts worse to moisture than icarex.
  23. Welcome and there's several good reads posted by others with the same question on the forums here, will definitely encourage you to dig and read a little as you move into your first Rev purchase. My first quad/rev ever was a used-midvent B series. Like yourself, I was thinking of flying in winds above 10mph too. I decided I wouldn't fly in less than 10mph so the choice to go midvent worked for me. After getting into the hobby with this first kite, I quickly realized I loved flying too much, and wanted to fly in lower winds. I ended up flying the midvent with covering up the vents with seran wrap to make it a full sail (or like a Classic 1.5, no vents). Later on (months later) I decided to buy a second kite, full sail, so I could stop having to put on/off seran wrap anymore. Hehe. Hopefully this quick sharing of my story will help you with making a decision Also, you enjoyed your test flight. So see whether that flight was with a vented or full sail so you start learning with the same experience you remember from the test flight.
  24. Okay guess I'm gonna need one longer. Tent stake? I have a portable Coleman sunshade that came with their own metal ground stakes, no longer than 10inch to a foot maybe.. those don't do squat at the beach for the tent, only on ground. I'll look what REI offers. The bottle with handle idea filled with sand sounds like it could work out well too. Thanks everyone!
