  1. I am very saddened to anounce the passing of Canadian kiter Merv Cooper. Merv travelled to many kite festivals locally & internationally. He was a friendly & generous soul who touched the heart of many. His passing will leave a huge void in the sky & our hearts. Here is a post from the Toronto Kiteflyers forum with more on this tragedy & info on how anyone can contact Merv's family. Several emails pasted together below. Merv Cooper, you were a good friend and you will be missed! Anyone wanting to send a card of sympathy to Rovena here is the address. Rovena has said she would love to hear from some of Merv's friends. Sharing some fond memories of Merv would be much appreciated by Rovena and her son David. Address: Rovena Cooper 29 Rollingwood Drive Willowdale Ontario M2H 2M4 1-416-493-0780 mervc@interlog.com -Carlos Simoes Obituary posted on TKF group by Michaela: COOPER, Mervin L., D.D.S. - Suddenly on Friday, December 24, 2004. Shiva 29 Rolling Wood Dr. after 1 p.m. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Mervin L. Cooper Memorial Fund c/o Benjamin's Foundation, 416-780-0324. Email posted by Mark Groshens: I think most of us are just finding out today after Merv's sudden passing on Christmas eve and the information was slow getting out with the holidays. I was totally surprised and saddened as I'm sure all of Merv's many friends and kiting companions will be. As a long time friend of Merv's in the Toronto Kite Fliers he was a corner stone of the club and was always available for demonstrations, arranging club activities and I think he might have even competed in a few friendly rokkaku battles over the years ;-) His line laundry collection was a familiar site at festivals, his friendly approach with children at festivals and his support of all kite fliers will be greatly missed. Merv's membership and influence in the kiting community extended not only amongst all the Ontario clubs but also across Canada, the US and many international organizations. On behalf of all of Merv's friends in the Wind Climbers Kite Club, and even more as a personal friend we express our sympathy and condolences to Merv's wife Rovena and son David. Merv is leaving a big empty space in the sky but his warmth and friendship will forever live in our hearts. Miss you Merv... new to rev EXP

Hi Wen Too bad you don't have a vhs player to view your tape.Hopefully the links everyone supplied will help you...but if you want a copy of the tape you have,I suggest taking it to a video/camera/or electronics store to see if it can be converted to DVD or CD. That way you have the full version to view at anytime. No vhs.......hmmmm......I like my old beta machine...even though it takes two people to lift it.Still...it fits nicely on the shelf between my record & 8-track players. I Live in Canada.......Canada isn't far......just far out! Later Good Winds Mike
  4. I'm looking at it & think you may have a couple solutions. If Progcrafts bridle adjustments don't help....just move the eye to the other side(bottom). THe dorsal & anal fins size may cause it to tip over(looks topheavy)....on the anal fin place a small weight inside.... a few buttons or something..just pin them in temp. to find best weight...can sew after you fine tune. If it works at all that is.lol Good Luck Mike
  5. Thank goodness for small bits of paper.lol THat has to be one of the most valuable tips I've ever heard! The other instructions must be on the kite.(this side up,for external use only, etc) Too Funny. Later Good Winds Mike
  6. They are nice kites indeed. It could have said.... Swiss are the breast. LOL (o)(o) Later Good Winds Mike

    magic

I do like both those magicians, but think comparing the two different styles is like saying whos the best kiter......someone who flys indoors or someone who buggies. The street style verses theatrical style is like comparing apples to oranges. What ever happened to Doug Henning? Where will this thread tread next?hahhaha Later Good Winds Mike
  8. She can but usually doesn't fly.Says she's content to just watch. I've been trying to gt her into single line or stunt kites, but she doesn't seem very interested. Fly's a Jojo trainer & has flown my 2 & 3 m RM's,but hasn't buggied or surfed.....yet. Besides.......if we BOTH had gear....I'd need a small army to carry it all from the car to the beach.Hahahaha Later Good Winds Mike
  9. My girlfriend & I had a good laugh about it. SHe had it all figured out how the winnings would be spent.....houses,cars,clothes & jewlry. hahaha.....I even got a kite allowance! Glad you took it with a sense of humour. Good Winds Mike
  10. Hey Lady Luck.....lol.....I got a fist full of lottery tickets....lets get a room & watch the draw! Hahahahahhaa Later Good Winds Mike
  11. THere can at times be too much wind. Equipment & experience will usually govern max./min. wind range. You must be using good flying line. Later Good Winds Mike
  12. Its a 15 & a 22.....& oh yes it pulls like a tank. Like my buddy says...Arcs rule & Phantoms are da bomb!lol With the light wind ...the stack was very slow turning, but worked just fine. Wasn't ripping it up......but at least was able to cruise. Here's a pic from last year.... Good Winds Mike
  13. I went through the same thing a while back.It is called the Nigerian scam I believe. You will receive a certified or cashiers cheque...the bank will cash it....the cheque is stolen however & in 5-15 days(depending on the bank)the bank will take the amount from your account....as the cheque won't clear. I suggest you get in touch with authorities.I contacted the city police, but there are some other agencies you can contact. Here in Canada...I called phonebusters...they work with provincial police,RCMP,FBI & interpol. THese scammers don't want the kite..they want the $$. By using western union they can't be caught. Think about it....wouldn't it be easier for his friend or associate who owes him $ to just wire it to you....or to him? Wize up folks.....the days of taking someones word are gone. I also found another group who go on about being devote Christians....but clearly aren't.(like thats suppose to make it all believable??) Be very cautious in your internet sales....C.Y.A. always! Good Winds Mike
  14. [ink most men actually like it when the woman can get and keep the upper hand] We do ???? As for devotion.......is it possible you got a D & B word mixed up?hahaha (do I know how to dig a hole or what! lol) I prefer an equal playing field with no upper hands. (nice recovery eh?) Good Winds Mike
  15. I can't get it here.......darn!! If anyone is able to tape it on vhs I'd love a copy. Video CD or DVD is acceptable also. Thanks Good Winds Mike
  16. Sounds like it needs more break.Also...depending on winds & usage..... Is it possible that you got some line stretch?Never hurts to give them a quick check. If you stll suspect its a bridle problem....measure one side & compare to other....looking for any discrepancies. Hope that you get it figured out. Good Winds Mike
  17. Anyone who has a mac should have ilife ,which features a program called garage band.Great for creating your own tracks in no time. Later Good Winds Mike
  18. Plane poo? As in regular?OOps....sorry.....was thinking plain poo.lol Sometimes poo just happens. Good Winds Mike
  19. How do you do it? Keep track of all this poo! Moon poo, bull poo, llama poo...whats next! Here I always figured poo was just poo............less you been at a corn roast. Hahahahha Later Good Winds Mikie Poo
  20. No problem John....everyone has their own opinion. He did have some very good points. I'd like to point out that my son & I are both seasoned & experienced traction kiters. The shots were from a festival where we were doing a demo. A controlled safe setting....& we were by no means overpowered to the point of danger. It was meant to show the power that can be generated by larger kites. We do stress the danger & that it should NOT be attempted by anyone but expert flyers. To do a demo & get trashed would defeat the purpose. Bans on traction kites is a concern on many beaches & we kite responsibly whenever in the publics eye.Respect & knowledge of the wind is important too. This could go on forever..lol Later Good Winds Mike
  21. I have done the naked thing..and your right.loads of smles. My son was 12 in that shot.Already with 4 years of kiting under his belt. If anything I am holding him back. He is 14 now & an avid buggy mountainboarder & kitesurfer. I often think I should just turn him lose to see what he can do. Kids! I don't know where he gets it from.LOL also..parachuting over water is no safer.Water gets very hard at 100mph. Although we strive to go higher, longer & faster....we do try to do it in the safest possible manner..........well most of the time.hahahha Later Good Winds Mike
  22. I have heard of a few wrist injuries, but usually from someone trying to buggy without a harness. I'd think that straps would help reduce the grip strenghth needed to fly.Which is one cause of wrist strains. Good Winds Mike
  23. Try that with the superblast!haha I was wanting to go higher, but the ground crew wouldn't do it.I think they were scared.lol Did manage to drag them half way across the field when I dived the kite through the zone. Too much fun! Later Good Winds Mike
  24. I'm not surprised you passed a skytiger.lol.....but the Jojo & blade? I dare say you must be an experienced pilot.A good buggyer can beat a rookie or recreational flyer with a fraction of the power. Maybe we should have a race.....hehe....Superblast vs Jojo/Libre. You say where & when....just send me the tickets & I'm there! HAhahahahhaha Good Winds Mike
  25. You are absolutely right Penny...there are no stupid questions. Looks like theres alot of sound advise here. Although i do like my rev's....I prefer to use a proper buggy engine to buggy. Foils rule in my opinion. Later Good Winds Mike
