  1. Wow!!! You guys are awesome!!! Thank you all so very much for all your info, tips and advice.

    I feel that I should add this... the only reason I'm getting the 120' lines are because it says to do so on the WCRC's "What to Bring" section... I don't make the rules, I just follow them. :clap;

To be completely honest, the thought of flying WITH or NEAR other people makes me a little uneasy.

120' lines are not mandatory but will definitely help your learning curve. Honestly, we're gonna fly with and near you if you think you are ready for it or not. It's not as big of a deal as you might think, and we will break you in quick. The learning curve increases dramatically when flying with others, so to make the most out of the clinic, I would certainly recommend it.

  21. I haven't done any dogstaking yet, but I plan on it.

My "thinking", when I get around to doing it, is to set up 4 rings somehow (with spacers between and swivels on each) so that each line has it's own ring and all line twists will then be on the kite side of the rings, not in the rings.

What's your impression of my thinking on this, before I do it? heehee!

EDIT: My thinking on this is that I believe most of the line wear would probably be caused from the line to line contact within the ring...and that there wouldn't be much, if any, from each line running over it's own smooth stainless surface.

    Keep It Up!

    Duane

There will still be a considerable amount of wear on the lines, but the friction between the lines will be gone, and the kite will be easier to control. Even with John's pulley rig, there is a very noticeable amount of wear on the lines after use.

  22. I have seen videos and heard people talking about dogstaking and was wondering if anyone could explain to me what it really was? Is it fun, easy, what do I need. Just looking for some general info on dogstaking.

Dogstaking is where the lines are sent through a loop or pulley so that the flyer can fly right next to the kite. Dogstaking rigs come in a number of varieties. At the most basic level, you can use a basic godstake with a polished metal ring. This is easy to set up and easy to use, but can be difficult to fly through because there will be a considerable amount of friction. Other dogstakes use ceramic rings from fishing poles. These take a little bit longer to thread the lines through and have a bit less friction than others. John B. has been going through several versions of a dogstake that uses pulleys. His latest version takes a bit of set up time, but is quite nice to fly through.

It is very fun. It can be a bit confusing at first, but it is really a lot more simple than it seems. When flying through a dog stake, you are looking at the back of the kite. So, you can switch the handles, then fly like you normally would. A basic dogstake could be bought from a pet store. You can add ceramic rings from a fishing pole to reduce the friction a bit. John's pulley system was custom made and cost a few hundred dollars.

  23. Here is what I got in my kit.

    2 3 wrap pieces with 1 ferrule

3 3 wrap pieces with no ferrule (this constitutes a full 3 wrap frame but isn't the LE assembled backwards?)

1 2 wrap piece with very poorly glued ferrule

4 2 wrap pieces with no ferrule (I'm assuming that the other piece that had a ferrule was also poorly glued and thus it was lost)

Yes, the LE on the B2 is assembled slightly differently than other rev kites. Before the B2 came out there was only the Rev 2, which originally had a 2 piece leading edge. They later came out with a 3 piece leading edge for the rev two as a travel frame. This frame had the leading edge ferrules on the outside spars instead of the center spar so as to make it slightly smaller when rolled up. This same structure was then brought over to the B2 when it came out.

  24. I believe he is talking about the knots in the line on the handles. You adjust where the lines are to get more or less "brake"

    Thanks "racer76g",

If that's what the "tuning" was he was speaking about, then I'm OK...I've got that covered...I just didn't know the terminological!

I never played with those little "weights"...have you, or anyone, ever used them? And if so, can you tell me how they effect the kite. Do they go in the vertical rods...(if so, top or bottom)...or do they go in the leading edge ends...or both?

    Keep It Up!

    Duane

Pete got it right. The weights are mainly for tricking. And they do make a noticeable difference in flick-flacks and axels, but because I am able to do them without the weights, they tend to do more harm than good for me.
