Try over rotating the nose before initiating the backspin input. ie. having the nose pointing farther up in the fade than normal. From what I've read, and seen, it looks as though some kites need that exaggerated fade so the wind can catch the kites belly and hold it in that position while the kite is being rotated. I've been trying to pull off a backspin from a fade, and have almost got it. My Quantum requires that exaggerated flare. Every time I've tried it from a flat fade it dives and recovers. I would have got it already if the winds weren't so darn choppy around my parts. I just need one good day at Delta Park where the winds are more steady. Too bad gas is at $4.00+ a gallon, and I can't justify going up there most the time because the Jeep gets about 17Mpg. o.0

Could you get us up a google maps link of the place and area m8? That'd be great. I think Im about the same distance from Hillsboro as I am from Delta Pk. West, but its always nice to have flying places available. I work in that area sometimes. ~J

Any updates on this little project of yours Evoltech? sounds fun.

hehe, Theresa gave me some APA SOCs when I went in to get my kite repaired. I went out to Delta Pk. that week, and was testing placement for them. I lost them both from an unplanned nosedive. I think I should have taped them before testing. lol I've read online that placing them generally 40% down from the nose of the kite on the LE's is the happy medium in most cases. It seems to make sense, with the bridle and line placements on most kites. The twist in the line is a great idea too. Now, if I could only pull off a yoyo without getting overwhelmed, I'd be set to test this theory. lol

What'chu got in that bag m8?? Any UL's?

Im real happy with my Prism Quantum (aside from the metal clasp tow point. They go in the garbage..). I was out at Delta Park this afternoon, testing out some bridle mods on my Fiance's cherry bomb, and trying to place yoyo stoppers on my booger. I have no problem tricking my Quantum. She wants to fly so bad, and man..... the Pull on this kite is insane! In mid-window Im leaning back about 35degrees trying to maintain (mind you I set my bridle for the pull). as far as I can tell (from my limited kiting experience) the Quantum flips, fades, and flares great. Stalls are a breeze (in higher winds its a little harder in mid-window), and its pretty darn precise at turning (could use a little more weight to increase the sharpness of precision turning). The one main advantage that the E2 Has over the hypnotist, and quantum that I can see, is the standoff adjusters for light wind and strong wind. But I can just move my standoffs at the lower spreader point and achieve the same effect as moving them on the sail. btw, I found the right placements for my yoyo stoppers (thanks theresa for the SOCs), by practicing wrapping up my lines. I got a yoyo off once, and was maintaining the wrapped lines pretty well, but on the recovery I dive bombed the kite, and the right standoff connector Im using for my yoyo stopper popped off into the field. lol Guess I should have taped them before messin around huh?. heh But Im getting off track here. If you're looking to upgrade, and A.) have a budget, or B.) just dont want to spend a lot, I would highly recommend the Quantum. Since its not a tonne of $$, you don't have to feel so bad when you feed your kite some dirt, as well as when you Mod. it. ...plus it comes in green [/Love my booger] ~Cheers

Heres a pic of the thrashed Tow points. Took it in to the kite shoppe today, and Theresa fixed the boog all up. Thanks again for the standoff, the SOC's and the tips T Cheers all. Bed time.

Was flying my Quantum yesterday in 10-15Mph winds, when my left metal line connector clasp (its a little "C" shaped clasp/towpoint that you larkshead your line to, then close/lock the clasp) sheers open, popping my left line off, then flatspinning to the ground. 0.o One of my left standoffs was missing when I went to inspect wtf happened. lol. I think the clasp must have whacked the standoff pretty hard, because it was gone gone. The backing came out, and there was just the hot poke hole there. I searched for a while looking for the standoff, but couldn't locate it. ...A moment of silence please, for the fallen... .... ...... .. Theresa's gonna fix 'the boog' (kites nickname) up for me on Thurs. (Thx T!!!!) Word to the wise? Don't use those metal bridle clasps on the Quantum, or any model that has them for that matter. Just larkshead to the tow point knot. They are fine for light winds, but anything higher puts a tonne of stress on them it seems. I'll upload a pic this afternoon, once my cam. batteries are charged. Cheers.

Man,,,, you're telling me about the heatwave brother....... I was out at Cannon Beach this weekend. Friday was over 100oF and Sat. was over 90oF. Word to the wise? DONT use that spray on "no rub" sunscreen. I was using that all day, and on Sunday my was looked like it had some sort of terrible rash. lol I was burned in some spots, and other spots that got the sunscreen were blotchy white. lol Was funny to my Fiance. Had a blast though Cheers Dean!

Im thinking thats what they are. Just standoffs that prevent the lines from tangling on the wing tips. Found a blog on it here. http://team.aerialis.no/cms/modules/weblog/ Cheers all. ~J

I just got my Quantum kite -- flies excellent ty I was wanting to learn how to do a yoyo sometime soon, but the quantum doesnt come equipped with yoyo stoppers. I was thinking that I could make my own, but havent been able to find anything as of yet on the internet that tells what supplies I would need, etc... Does anyone have any experience making yoyo stoppers, or could someone point me in the right direction to get me started? Much Thanks.

...for my Prism Quantum. Just took it out for a test flight, and its great. Thanks again!!! ~Jon

I just ordered my Quantum from thekiteshoppe. Gonna pick it up tomorrow. I got the Citrus color. Very sharp. (Thanks Theresa!) Happy boy is I. Just in time for the beach this weekend. Gonna give my Cherry Bomb to my Fiance -- get her interested in trickin'. Would be cool to fly pairs with her.

aye. I just ended up removing them entirely. Having the dynamic bridle helps that kite out like 10. Although I should think about shortening the yoke. Its about 4 inches in length. It really helps the precision turning, but can oversteer very easily.

Well, the quantum is about $90, and I havent found any professional reviews, asides from the manufacturer's. I've seen it in action on youtube (searched 'prism quantum'), and it looks pretty good, and flies excellent. Looks like one of those kites that really 'wants to fly'. Im pretty sure it comes with yoyo stoppers as well. Im looking for something big. Comparatively speaking in regards to my cherry bomb. 7ft wingspan seems good enough for me. hehe Glider let me fly one of his kites last weekend. Can't remember which it was, but it had about a 7ft wingspan. That was the first time I actually pulled off an axel. The Cherry Bomb just doesnt hold enough wind for me to do a lot of tricks. I mean, yeah, you can pull some off, but they look sloppy, and are hard to recover from. And forget about doing multiple tricks in a row. Reading up on kites and the dynamics of tricks, and wind for the past 3 weeks, has really given me a solid hold on how to maneuver a sport kite, so Im lookin to step up to something bigger, and a little more aggressive. In the Portland area, we've got pretty gusty winds - about 5-15Mph depending where you are. Closer to the Columbia it can be higher. Im in the Oregon City area, so with the altitude, and where I decide to go, whether here, or out to Canby, its a little more Constant, so I dont think I'll have to go for an ultra light. The price of the Quantum, the look, and the videos are enough to get me really interested in this kite. Just wish there were more reviews. Thanks for the advice Dean. <-- turning into a junkie for kite talk. My fiance thinks Im a geek. hehe.

I've never flown that kite, but ya know, if it flies, its a worth while kite. If you get enjoyment out of it? Extra bonus. I've recently got into stunt flying, and have a Cherry Bomb kite by New Tech Kites. Its a good beginner stunt kite for getting into simple tricks. Its supposed to be designed for wear and tear and nose dives galore. lol I've got about 12 hours of flying out of it before the fabric nose ripped, exposing the spine in all its glory. Easy fix though. If you're thinking about getting into stunt flying, I would suggest something a little more durable, like the Cherry Bomb. Hope thats of some help m8.

I was looking at a Prism Quantum as an option for another Kite Upgrade. I may have the opportunity to get one at a discount. I've watched some vids on this kite, and it looks super maneuverable, and pretty sharp turning. Anyone have any opinions on this particular kite? -cheers ~Jon

Indeed Hopefully. I think Im steering in the direction of the Silver Fox tbh. I wanted to stick with NTK but Im not really satisfied with the reviews. That,, and I already broke the nose of my Cherry Bomb after only about 12 hours of flying. Mind you, some serious nose dives caused the fabric tip to shred, making the spine a flying projectile, but for a beginner kite, I would think that the re-enforcements on the nose would be quite a bit better than they are. WTB Silver Fox 2.5. -Cheers m8s ~Jon
