Vasant56
Could someone help me out with a High School kite project? We need to design and build a kite, marks will be awarded to the longest flying, largest volume, and highest flying, I believe. I really know nothing about kites, so if someone could suggest a cool design that would work well, that would be great. We need to build it ourselves, using our own material, but we don't want to make something incredibly basic (we're seniors). By looking at this site there are tons of kite designs, but I don't know how each one works. Sorry if this is on the wrong forum. Any good websites or resources would help aswell. Thanks BTW: We want to make something cool, that will be different than the standard kites most kids will be making.
Penny Lingenfelter
Please, Can someone send him to the kitemakers site? They'll be able to help you. Kites have something for everyone, art, height, control, pull. This particular topic is quads. We're the kites with brakes, reverse and speed control. Hopefully, you'll come try one of ours one day. It's like riding a horse, fishing, flying and other physically and mentally challenging sports all rolled up into one. How difficult? A cody? Used as a man lifting machine. A fighter, used to fight other kites. There are a zillion type of kites. Hope you learn a lot and have a great time doing it. Where are you locate? Good luck with your project! Progcraft
Please, Can someone send him to the kitemakers site? Ok, I'll do it then. Hi Vasant56. So, you want to make a kite eh!?! Well then. Lets see. First question. Do you have, and know how to use, a sewing machine? If yes, then ok then. If not, then ok then too. (I just want to know what you'll be able to do. Tape vs. sewing). Next, go here: Kitebuilder.com If you ask that question in the 'Kitebuilding 101' forum, you will get more responses then you will know what to do with. Now, lets see.. (all these suggestions involve sewing) You could go with a Square Flake or #54 Star Facet kite. They are unique, fun flyers. But, need to be made with good quality kite fabric (to avoid stretch which is bad on these kinds of kites). You could go with a basic Delta design, but use your own imagination to make it pretty. Or, how about a Sky Sheet? (can't get much simpler then those). Or a sled kite!!!!! That might be just the thing for you. Easy to make, very visable, can be made from just about any type of fabric and can be made in any size. Smaller sizes don't even need any sticks of any kind. Or a train of mini Della Portas!!! Or a Delta Box!! Or a pilot!! Or a Waldorf box!!! Please pop by Kitebuilder.com. We can help you. The quad-heads here may have good reflexes, but most of 'em are scared of sewing machines P. Vasant56
I'm thinking about making a rotor kite, I saw. Although I Have a page (http://www.cit.gu.edu.au/~anthony/kites/rotor/), and there are somewhat vague plans, I really can't find any specific ones. Right now my main problem would be looking for a material to make the rim out of.
