Quad KiT Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Found this on the REV site while snooping around... Are those DUBS?!? (20" throws) I wouldn't make such a big deal out of it but look who is flying them. Quote
John Barresi Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Yup, I think those are 20" handles... Been available from Rev for the last few months. I could be mistaken, but I seem to recall that they come standard with the Rev I now... Not positive though. Too much handle for my needs, haven't spent much time on 'em. Quad KiT Posted January 21, 2007 Author Report Posted January 21, 2007 What needs require handles with that much of a throw? Quote
John Barresi Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Well, some fliers would argue that it gives you more control, by having to move the handles less... Also, in light winds, such long handles enable you to really effect the angle of attack. IMHO, I've always felt that handles of such length provide more potential over control, and have chosen instead to do a little more "working" of the kite through arms, shoulders and foot work... I won't say it's better, but my quad comp record certainly says something about it. If you take a poll of the successful quad line competitors, I'd guess that 80%-90% of them use 13" handles. One thing for certain, extra long handles DO allow you to whip the kite around a lot more... Axels, Flic Flacs, etc... All much easier, and more consistent. Quote

(20" throws)I wouldn't make such a big deal out of it but look who is flying them. No, they are only 15" handles with half the bend taken out. They are now about 10 years old as you might be able to see by the wear on the grips. In that photo, Joe Hadzicki is flying my REV for me. Take a look at the attached photo. The upper handles are my 20" handles which are a bit toooooooooo looooooong. I will be shortening them by 2 to 3 inches sometime soon. The lower handles are the actual one seen in my photo DSC19445sm.jpg as seen on the forum revkites.com. Quote
ant man Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 i would think 20 inches would be too much 15 would be the limit fo me if i ever made a set of handles Quote
Quad KiT Posted January 22, 2007 Author Report Posted January 22, 2007 Thanks for the explanation. Quote
Penny Lingenfelter Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 I hear the extra length on the handles is great for long stacks. BB Penny ~thinking size does matter. Quote
John F Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 Next up will be adjustable handles built with a twist lock mechanism. After all kiters like to fiddle around suboptimizing to perfection. Quote

Revolution did sell some extra long handles which were carbon wrapped for trains. I have some stored away somewhere. I think the length was 16", plus or minus an inch. Maybe they still sell them. Who knows! Quote
