JACM
I am interested in joining this hobby I got really excited to see the Quad line kites in Youtube. I normally fly RC Helis which is great for calm days but not fun for windy days, here you can see an example of RC heli stunts you guys may enjoy Looking how the Quad kites hover made me decide to get one so I will not stop flying even in windy days. I been searching around but I am not sure which type of quad to get. Winds over here in Salt Lake City UT are between 4 and 20 mph. I had some basic experience with the two line kites but I definitely would like to try the quad. Could you please provide me with some suggestion on a brand and model? And do you guys recommend buying a second hand kite to start and where can I find one? I am sure once I get one I will get the rest of the RC Heli Club members excited too. John Barresi
There are a lot of cool quads, but I'd recommend a Rev... It's the most versatile and controllable. http://www.revkites.com/forum A bunch of good threads on the subject already, and a strong support community. ant man
sweet flying with that hellicopter .. i thought at first you had no control of that thing but after a few minutes i started to realize how your were rippin up the skies lol... 2 good starter kites i can suggest is either the b series or the 1.5 .. they are the 2 best kites for control espically for beginners.. seeing how you fly that rc .. getting used to a rev should be eazy for you

That's 4 Revs now. The addiction continues..... Dont forget the other kite forum http://www.gwtw-kites.com/forum/default.asp
JACM
Thank you very much Guys for all the advice... I started to go through the forums that you guys suggested. I a leaning towards a Rev B series, with 90# line 90' LaserPro Gold, however not decided yet on vented or std. Do I need any thing else, accessories or something? Seams to be that the vented is the favorite one, so is it possible to buy a vented kite and then use like a plastic bag and tape to cover the vents to fly in low winds (3-8 mph)? Am I crazy? or just buy a ligther frame? Something I don’t understand very well is how the frame works it says it comes with a 2-wrap and 3-wrap but you can also use both of them (5-wrap) in stronger wings. How is this possible how dose it work? And when do you decide to change one frame or another does it bend or something in stronger winds? Thanks again PS. I have to confess that I am not the pilot on the RC Heli video, his name is Alan Szabo and he is one of the Best just like John Barresi is on the Kite world, I do 3D stunts but at higher altitude he he he he

The leading edge is 3 rods that you connect together and then slide into the kite. The Barresi series Revs come with two sets of rods for the leading edge of the kite. You can swap them out entirely or put both leading edges in for max strength in the really high winds. I came across this as the recommended wind range of the various sets on The Kite Shoppe's website: 3-10 mph (2 wrap frame - included) 4-16 mph (3 wrap frame - included) 6-20 mph (3 wrap frame w/2 wrap LE added) Above 10 mph I think a lot of people switch to the vented sail if they have it, though ~Dan
ant man
Dan.. dont forget to that you can always get a 4 wrap if you dont want to double up rods..
