Goofing around trick

Hoodoo

Recommended Posts

I had some very nice winds this evening so I decided to go fly for a bit. Being new to trick flying, I have little experience in the names of the tricks. I'm able to stall it in the middle of the power window and land it safely. I'm able to sweep within inches of the ground across the window. And the spins, figure eights, etc.

But today I was bored with that. So I flew it up essentially vertical, slacked the lines so the nose few away from me, and let it float into a (fade?) While on its back flying away from me I tugged on the right line and it spins on its back. After the nose rotates clockwise once, I even the tension and continue "normal" flight. I was able to do this with some consistency. My question is what is the name of this trick? Is it a trick...well it is to me.

I will try to get my wife to shoot some video of it and will post later.

Hoodoo, looks like you are having fun out there ;)

So flying vertically up from the ground and then slack on the line so the kite will lean on it's back just like on the ground? With the line lying on the lower spreaders?

If this is what you did, then you did your first Turtle position.

Now while in this position and you tug on one line, the kite will turn, bringing the nose towards you and then complete the rotation, then the kite will take it's normal position then fly, this will be a lazy susan :) Ohh yesss you did it

Before going too far in tricks Hoodoo, i will suggest you get your hands and master the basic, proper stall in any part of the window and the ability to side slide your kite from one side of the wind window to another keeping the same altitude..Things will get even more easy later (believe me on this :) )

Now talk about what kite you are flying..would like to know the history (perhaps you already did somewhere here, but am too lazy to browse lol)

Have fun and Good winds ever to you

I am working on the stalls. But I think I need to start playing with the weights a little. I can get a stall to sweep just a bit and I can stall it from the top of the power window all the way to a landing. But I have to time it right as the kite rocks its way down. BTW the kite is a NTech French Kiss (great bargain). As far as "getting into" tricks, the turtle and lazy susan just came natural. At this point it's hard for me to watch a training vid at home and work on it in the field. But after last nights flight, I came back home and watched some vids to try and learn what I was doing. Some of the other tricks made a little more since because of what I saw happening during my flight. Practice Practice Practice...I'll get there.

Yeah, watching the video at home, and trying it out in the field.... yeah, something gets lost on the way. My mind just blanks out most of the time when I'm trying to learn something new. But learning a new trick is rewarding because it takes so long to get to that point of claiming another trick in the bag. At least that's my experience.

My first real trick other than stalling & figures was a Lazy Susan, too.

1. A fade is where the kite is floating on it's back, nose toward you.

2. A turtle is where the kite is floating on it's back, nose away from you.

It's also possible to spin the kite from either position, which changes the trick into...

1. Fade + spin = backspin (any number of repetitions).

2. Turtle + spin = lazy susan (repeats are called a multi-lazy).

I hope that helps. :)
