Stuck in a turtle with you

Hi all, have an skyburner ocius as my first upgrade kite ( from a prism quantum ) and am finding that it has a tendency to stay in a turtle.

It's easy to get into turtle and i can lazy Susan once it's there and most times comes out of the Susan, but if I just straight turtle it tend to sit pretty deep nose down in the turtle and I struggle to get back out.

Is it me or is it the kite?

Heya Sean - glad to see you on the forum. :)

"Staying in a turtle" is actually an increasingly common trait in new high performance kites (like the Ocius), due to turtle-based tricks being more popular.

I also found it a little quirky to simply go in / out of a turtle on the Ocius (and more than a few other kites), a Susan or Jacobs Ladder segment is usually the best way out in my experience.

It's likely our other members here will have more feedback for you as well, I know there are a few Ocius fans on KiteLife. :)

I have a few 'Turtle Happy' kites that like to get stuck, and I've found that when you're stuck, give an even push on both lines, causing the kite to go nose-deeper into the turtle, then pull back to flying position. Some SUL kites are nearly impossible to get out of the turtle in light wind conditions, even using this method.

Put the Micron in that position a few times recently while flying with intent. It does not want to stay in it & pops out after a few moments. But what fun, now what's next with my little zoomy kite?

Axel that little booger ! It's the funniest thing to see, but don't blink ! 540s are also cool with the Micron. Also, if you get it in a Turtle, pull either the left or right line, and it will Lazy Susan.

It's funny how I am learning some tricks on kites not really known as trick kites while the boutique kites remain in the bag. I now feel the best kite for trick flying is the one on your lines at that moment. Thanks for the suggestions & hints. Things happen fast with little kites which may be playing into my twitchy style. I think I may be starting to "get it". And I got to get a Rev II soon....

When you're stuck in a Turtle, you could try to tap both lines and step forward at the same time. This will cause the kite to roll up if you get the tap & timing right. The key is the step forward to give the right amount of slack. Most tricky SULs will do this...
