West Australian Posted July 28, 2013 Report Posted July 28, 2013 Hi all. My iFlite vented has a 1 inch long rip in the sail. The rip is on the inside of the vented hole. It looks like it will rip further when the sail is under tension. Can I just use clear tape to repair it? Any advice you can offer? Thanks in advance. Quote
Reef Runner Posted July 29, 2013 Report Posted July 29, 2013 Hey WA, Check this topic................... http://kitelife.com/...ear/#entry36207 Can't believe that you missed this..........do it !! Quote
West Australian Posted July 29, 2013 Author Report Posted July 29, 2013 Thanks Reef Runner. The iFlite is made from a plastic sheet, not fabric. I wanted to know if there were any Taping Concerns with the plastic. I got a quick Email response from Patrick Tan: As for repair, yes you may use clear tape, cut the strip as narrow as you can to cover the rip. To align the rip, use a glass or very flat surface. Spray from water on the surface then place the kite (de-tensioned) onto the wet surface. Carefully move the ripped sail to align them, the wet surface should hold them together. Now aim carefully and tape over the rip, good luck! I shall give it a go. 3 Quote

John Barresi Posted July 29, 2013 Report Posted July 29, 2013 Report and photos? Curious to see the result. Quote
Wayne Dowler Posted July 29, 2013 Report Posted July 29, 2013 If you notice any imbalance caused by the repair, try adding an equal sized piece 180* from the repair for balance! I had to re-glue my LE down and used equal sized dots of glue on both sides, so as to not affect the balance of my sail! 1 Quote
West Australian Posted July 30, 2013 Author Report Posted July 30, 2013 Well the Repair was very easy. I did not think of taking any photos of the stages, sorry. the tape is very difficult to see unless the light reflects of it differently. Also, It flies just as nicely as ever. I managed to snap a shot on my Ipod. 2 Quote
