Nick Russell
I just got into kite flying after being introduced to a Prism Snapshot 1.9 speed foil at the kite festival in Long Beach, WA. Bought one of my own and have had it out several times now. It's fun and pulls great, but last week at another kite event in Seaside, Oregon I saw some folks flying stunt kites and really liked the way they seemed to handle. So I've been looking at the different ones out there and am liking what I see about the Quantum. Any feedback or suggestions for a 60 year old flier new to the sport?
Cyphert
The quantum is a nice flying kite. And the quantum pro even better. There was a kite flying team that won worlds with there quantum pro. It's a whole new beast. The quantum is a big slow kite and being so is easier to fly. And it'll do every trick in the book. It's a good kite that can grow with your kite skill.
RaginCajun
Ditto everything Matt said. We give lessons and demos at Kitty Hawks kite fests here in Florida and we push the Quantum. It's a very durable and tough great flying kite. I don't own a pro, but I do own about 4 of them and I love them. I even have one that is a dedicated night kite, I've sewn fairy lights all around the leading and trailing edges of the kite and also add about 8-10 iNova microlights and it handles the additional weight like a champ. You can't go wrong with a Quantum, and at around a hundred bucks or so, it's really a sweet deal. Another great kite is a Revolution. Total control over every aspect of the kite. If you like dual lines, you'll LOVE quad line flying!
Reef Runner
Hey Nick, No argument with any of the above, but remember, the bigger the kite, usually the easier it is to fly. Some people think that since they are beginning, "I'll just get this cute little kite"............. Don't, it will be too fast most of the time. Stick to your plan, and go with a full size kite.............I've never flown a Quantum, but I did learn on a Prism Fanatic (oldie but goodie). Great fun. If I was going to give you any other advice, just due to the complexity of the kite, the flight characteristics, the lines, etc, I think I'd learn to fly a dual line first, before moving to four lines. This will at least give you a good feel for kites, how they work, line management, etc, but when you do decide to go for four, definitely go with the Rev............... Good Luck..........you're going to like this "kiting stuff"................I can tell ! Best of luck..........nick
bbailey49
Yep, it's all been covered. The most important thing is to remember to find the joy, no matter what you're flying.
