Backspin23 Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 Hello, I'm interested in videotaping my self and others flying, I have one video of me that my sister recorded with her video camera, however it is laggy <_< I wanted to get my own video camera, and I have absolutly no idea on what to look for in a camera. I will use it primarally for kites, as well as trips and such. So are there any specific things I should look for, framerate ect. and I noticed that there are several types of camcorders. Mini DVD, Mini DV, Hi8, Digital8, ect. soo are any of these better than others, or what. Thanks for your help. by the way you can check out my video here to see what I mean by laggy. JD Fabich.com Sorry the site isn't quite finished yet. Quote

monkey Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 Well, I can with what I have used, I've been very happy with the JVC Mini-DV cameras and I've also used a lot of Sonys. Look for firewire as a connection method... With a mac, firewire and straight into iMovie is a joy to deal with, but, I haven't yet bothered trying video software on a PC yet, but, John knows a bunch about it. Quote
kite-head Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 I use a Cannon Optura Digital Camcorder. I records video (pretty high res, I'm not sure of the specs off hand) onto miniDV tapes, and also has a built in 2 megapixil still camera which saves images onto and SD memory card. You can also shoot lower resolution video (320x240 - I think) onto the memory card. It plugs straight into my computer via firewire or USB2 connection and imports images and video into my appropriat software quite easily. I have been extremely pleased with the quality of video when shown on the TV. But like with many things, part of your decision process will be based on cost...so how much do you want to invest in a camera. Quote
John Barresi Posted November 8, 2005 Report Posted November 8, 2005 For most of the video you see on Kitelife, I used a Sony Digital 8 camera, model DCR-TRV530. Not the best by any means, but enough. I just plug the camera into my TDK IndiCapture unit, and it processes the video in MPG format for me. Quote
